Elite Dangerous wins

Postby Xebeth » Sun Nov 29, 2015 11:29 am

So, I picked up the Witcher 3 in the Steam sale, now this is a game I've wanted to play since it came out, but never wanted to pay £50 for. I loved Skyrim and played it for several hundreds of hours before ED came out, and seeing the 20K+ positive reviews, and all the awards I thought this'll be fun.

Well after 3 hours I was bored and itching to get back to ED, which I then played for the rest of the day.

These story driven RPG games used to have me hooked for ages, but all I could think was "I could have earned several million in claimed bounties during this time".

Now this isn't a criticism of Witcher 3, which is a visually stunning and no doubt highly entertaining game, but more a commentary on ED, which despite all it's issues, still clearly has that "pull you in, and not let you go" effect... well done FD, I take my hat off to you.

Think I got witcher 3 as a coupon deal with my gpu, have yet to play it though.
I have also since getting ED bought wolfenstein on sale, but yet to even start it up once.

Too busy playing ED...

Come to think of it I don't think I have played a single pc game since April besides ED, but I have played 1100+ hours of elite in that time...

The main problem with those games is (and its a GOOD problem), they are so fraking BIG!

I played Fallout New Vegas, didnt finish it. I played Skyrim, didnt finish it. I went back to Skyrim with a different mindset and managed to finish it. I intend to do the same for Fallout 3 and NV. I love RPGs, im all about the story in games. I also have the issue that I HAVE to finish games if I like them. I've played Witcher 1&2, and want the 3rd at some point. Unfortunately those games require a commitment of a vast amount of hours.

Hours that could be sunk into earning my Elite empire :)

Skyrim, Fallout NV, FAllout 4.. all I love to death but have never finished. I just play for awhile get lost in the world and love it than play something else for awhile.. then drift back over and do it again :p

Well, with these games there are finishing and then there are finishing

The main quest line in skyrim can be blown through in less than 12 hours, sure that's not how I play it "sometimes I even do.
"no fast travel: EVER" runs.
They get rather long but really helps with immersion when you have to actually walk everywhere..

The Witcher 3 is possibly the greatest RPG of all time in terms of storytelling, lore, and immersion. It is a limited world but there are a million things to do.

Elite is a HUGE game in which there are four things to do. You just happen to love those four things.
