Nice review. ED in VR truly is a mind blowing experience. I got this game specifically for VR, set up an entire VR cockpit simulator with a race seat, buttkicker transducer, couple narrow tables on each side with my throttle, stick, and arm rests. It is absolutely amazing... being able to look around your ship, track objects by turning your head, and with the buttkicker I actually feel the landing gear retract, or feel the thump of a nearby ship exploding. All that combined with how detailed and large scale ED is makes for an immersive gaming experience the likes of which I've never come close to. Not by a long shot.
The learning curve and lack of hand holding is very brutal, though. I almost threw in the towel several times, but glad I stuck with it. Once I just accepted that any remotely new task was going to require 20 minutes of google research beforehand, it got much better. Also, accepting that every session isn't going to be pure excitement, that was another big hurdle. It's a completely different approach than traditional gaming, but that's what makes it so special. There's so much that ED has to offer that you just can't find anywhere else.
