Yeah, I got three of those but run out of power lol.

I might actually just go practice emergency jumps. Get them into muscle memory. And remember to have a system selected so can jump quickly by hitting target next system.

Plus I could've hit silent running when the shields went down...

Wait till your ship is 30+mil to rebuy. I usually come in then fly off some before selecting a faction to see how it is first. If the numbers are not in my favor, I try a different play, Solo/Group, until it is fairly decent. Or look for others. Best to sit back first to see whats going on, instead of jumping into the middle then selecting a faction.

Yep we live and learn, or in this case die and learn. It did come as a little bit of a shock, it had been so long since I lost a ship I was almost thinking it could not happen to me, that I could always come up with something to escape. But I guess you always have to be careful no matter how long you have played.

As for the 30+mill rebuy. Wow that is a lot, my current highest rebuy ship is just over 8 mill. That said the rebuy cost has always to me seemed to be roughly at the same level as my earning ability at the time. I remember losing a Cobra MkIII and the rebuy feeling like a great loss to me. I guess when I have a 30+mill rebuy ship, I will also have a hell of a lot more earning potential?

Yes, yes you will. By the time you are building $600-800mil ships you'll have the ability to make at least $5-10mil per hour or more without too much difficulty. (and without relying on specific money making exploits) It's pretty easy to do in a trade spec conda/cutter, or a combat focused Vette. Heck, running passengers in a D rated Beluga in a system where you are allied can make you quite a bit too.

Also, by the time guys are building $600mil ships they've usually had several "oops" moments and paid for rebuys on less expensive hulls. Hopefully learning from those situations so that they don't happen too often on the big expensive ships.

A trade cutter can carry 720 tons of cargo while carrying a shield generator and an ADS. The loop trade route finder on EDDB always shows more than a few loop routes with a profit of 4000 cr/ton or more. 720 tons * 4000 cr/ton = 2.88 million credits, so you need 11 loops to earn 30 million credits. The rule of thumb is that you can always do at least 4 loops per hour, so earning those 30 million credits will take 3 hours at worst.

Of course, you need the imperial rank for the cutter. If you are not into rank grinding, a trade anaconda can do 452 tons of cargo, so the same 30 million will take 17 loops, so around 4 hours. A trade corvette is similar, but needs federal rank.

The only ship you should not use if you need to earn money is a T-9. When interdicted, a cutter can run away, anaconda and corvette can walk away, a T-9 can waddle away at best. And has shitty armor and shields.
