Just made triple Elite after playing the game for 2 years.

I needed to get Elite in Explorer Rank to finish the trio, and today's 2.2.03 patch added a new feature so that 50% of Passenger sightseeing mission rewards counts towards the Explorer rank.

I don't remember seeing that in the change log, but I probably missed it. Where did you get that info?

It's this:

- Fix elite rank point calculations from missions so that they are a % of any mission profit earned

It means that if a passenger sightseeing mission pays 6 million CR, then 3 million CR of that (50%) count towards your explorer rank. I found out that it is 50% by trying it. I was 33% Pioneer. I took a passenger sightseeing mission for 14 million CR. Handed it in and, bam!, I was 40% Pioneer. A few more high paying passenger sightseeing missions took me to Elite.

Im doing my 5000ly into purgatory to unlock Palin. However I wish I'd lightened up my Conda as even at 50.2% G5 FSD its still only 30ly jump range. I neglected to change it from Gen Purp to explorer mode.

And considering you would have to scan what?
200 + neutrons to earn that, it honestly a ridiculous way to earn the same rank.

Kind of puts immediate pressure on how out of touch from the rest of the games economy exploration is.

Yep. Just make sure they are sightseeing missions, not "take me from here to there" missions.

For info - it took me 2 years to get to 33% Pioneer. This was by earning about 90 million CR in exploration data according to the stats panel. At this level, 1 million CR of exploration data = about 1% progress toward Elite. So I needed about another 66 million credits of exploration data to get to Elite. At my rate of progress, I figured it would take me at least another 18 months. So, I took the passenger mission route instead.
