That is actually a waste of time, since the following change is documented in the release notes for 2.2:
- Set Mining missions so that they cannot offer the cargo that the player has mined as a reward
Either pick up the mission(s) before you start mining, or just sell.
Then I hit a bug with that. I've had a few mining missions pop-up asking for osmium that I already had in my hold.
I'm interpreting it that the mission won't reward you with the ore you mined.
I understand that note the same way as Azathoth. A mining mission that wants you to mine Osmium will not reward you with Osmium.
Anyways, did my share of mining today, 60 tons of Bromellite and 85 tons of other worthless stuff. Had this idea to mine the ores to unlock engineer Bill Turner, because why not.

I've usually done some short mining runs in a Cobra mk IV, but this time fitted Python with the drill bits. Should have taken bigger collector limpet controllers, had only 4 collectors flying around and I had to wait for them as two class 2 mining lasers are just too fast for only 4 limpets.
Bromellite was a bit rare-ish.. But low temp diamonds, those are extremely rare. Saw only one rock with a tiny bit of it, not even enough to create 1 ton of final product. Painite is common in comparison. And yep, I was in pristine ice ring.
