Pulled the trigger: New Asp Explorer

Postby Zaggeron » Mon Aug 15, 2016 6:24 pm

I finally got my first expensive ship -- a slightly used Asp Explorer (that apparently was only used to deliver beer and fish if the smell from the cargo hold is any indication).

I've got it upgraded to mostly B-class with around 64 tons of cargo capacity. I've been using it as a light cargo courier. It's really bumped up my earning potential being able to take 3-4 100K+ "shuttle this to there" missions at a time. Bought it over at Aramil -- IIRC -- closest system to me that had the 15% discount.

Got around 150 LY away from the purchase system and started to feel the pangs of loss for my beloved Cobra mk3 which was left in storage at Aramil. So I flew my new Asp to my "home base" of sorts -- Vela City @ HIP 74255, rented a new sidewinder equipped with an A grade FSD and all the fuel tanks I could fit onto her and took her on a one way trip to grab my Cobra.

The Asp is a lotta fun -- priority parking at outposts and stations, decently fast, and fairly decently armed -- triple blast lasers on the small hardpoints and 2 level 2 overcharged auto-cannons on the medium hardpoints -- those were a pain to transfer from my Cobra. Got blown up real good in an interdiction from an NPC driving a FAS, but she seems to handle anything smaller pretty well.

That's my favorite ship to fly and fight in thanks to the unique engine sounds and the gun placement.

Hmmm, "Dawg" does not sound like the description of the former owners -- "old retired couple" -- given to me by the dealer at Pippin Dock ;)

That's Dawg alright.

As for the smell..

Well there's was a monkey, 12 victims escape pods, a 4 ton shipment of beer thst never arrived and 20 tons of shrimp Dawg insisted was a great bargain..

Well I probably shouldn't say anymore just for the love of God never wield a blacklight in the cargo bay...

Rule 1: Pillage. Then burn.
Rule 2: No such thing as overkill, as long as there are reloads.

Haha ... Good advice. Next time I'll know better than to buy a ship at "Cal W's Asp Emporium"

Grats, makes a great little ship for doing runs between sothis and ceos for rank grinding. I'd sold my original AspX to eventually get to an Anaconda, which is still my main ship, but did an A rated AspX for doing high speed data exchanges and light smuggling between them. Enjoy it. It's a great little ship.

Yeah, she does sound pretty cool and I am liking the hardpoint locations -- especially compared to the small hardpoints on my Cobra.

No no ... It's fine. I understand all sales are final, but you could have sprung for the class A refrigeration unit.
