A little assistanxlce from able commanders

Postby pedroblack009 » Tue Jul 19, 2016 8:40 am

Greetibgs everyone

New guy on here and first post. Hoped I could ask for abit of advice as you all seem to really know what you are doing

I'm at a weird juncture in my game. I have 15million in the bank.

Been flying around in a vulture for the past several months bounty hunting so my combat rank is Dangerous.

Recently "downgraded' to a Cobra IV just to mix things up and miss the Vulture. But hears the thing. I am board of the using the same ship.

Tried trading but found I was only making about 100000 and hour.

Could someone please advise on

1) how to make a little more money quicker via trading cz I feel like am doing it wrong

2) next ship purchase. The ships like the conda and python seem so far away is there a healthy inbetween point.

3) factions. I have not used the factions system...at all. Not really sure what the benefits or the downsides are so just not committed.

Literally picked his game up and just been flying around doing my own thing. Googled assistance and lead me to here so though i would ask.

Cheers for any help in advance

Greetings to you my little vulturistic friend,

here are my advises for you:

1) Howto make money quicker.
- you could try to look for conflict zones and when you found one,
go to the nest station and get as many massacre missions as possible.
sometimes you get 10mil with a single mission
- for trading use http://eddb.io and look for a loop route, this
generates you something like that:
Candecama (Sheremetevsky City) buy imperial slaves ->
Agarla (Weizsacker Hub) sell them there and buy titanium which you sell
at the other one
- for smuggling go to Ceos (New Dawn Station) and get as many smuggling
missions as possible, but for that you need a ship with a fuel scoop,
long jump range and cargo space (take the ASP)

2) If you want to trade and do a little combat the ASP Explorer
is your ship. It is the perfect ship to make some money in the early
stages.
- If you want to know where to buy the ASP or other commodities
take a look at http://inara.cz.
- If you want to doodle a little around with some ship specifications
go to http://coriolis.io

3) As a faction I would suggest Aisling Duval cause of the prismatic shields
but all in all it gets sometimes annoying if you fly around and always some
aggressive agent comes by and is interdicting you. So for the time being
I would say it like the beatles said it before: "Let it be".
And I am sure Lennon had Elite Dangerous in mind when he wrote that song.

So I think I earned myself a space bug cocktail. Please deliver it to Chona :)

For trading, you'll probably want to search around a bit, as there are several high-profit routes floating around the bubble. If you're looking to start trading right away, I recommend the Orang/Karid route (purchase Imperial Slaves at Orang, sell at Karid, bring power generators/water purifiers back to Orang) since its pretty well known. If you want to do a bit of research, try inara.cz or google elite dangerous trade routes (I don't do much route-based trading, I'm more of a courier with missions). Lastly, if you don't mind the distance, you can always do some trading missions from Ceos/Sothis, but that's a bit of a long haul. You'll definitely want to use the resources that elchris mentioned.

If you're looking for your next ship, that depends on what you are planning to use it for. Are you planning to go for a full-combat role, full-trade role, multipurpose role?
If you're looking for a trade ship, I would recommend the Type 6 or Type 7. The T6 holds a max of 112 tons while the T7 holds a max of 232 tons.
The Asp Scout or Asp Explorer both fit the multipurpose role. They also have pretty great jump ranges and have decent combat performance.
For combat, I'd get your Vulture back if you sold it, otherwise you'll have to start saving up for the Fer-de-Lance and higher.
(I don't know what Federation/Empire ranks you have so I'm trying to avoid recommending faction specific ships).

As for factions, I assume you mean PowerPlay. Right now, PowerPlay is in a bit of a sorry state, as there are a bunch of bugs that are ruining how that system operates. Best to just leave it alone for now, as it tends to be more of a nuisance when trying to deal with enemy PowerPlay NPCs and the bonuses don't really help to offset this.

1) Trading is a huge money maker, but you need to find good loops and it can be a bit boring if you don't wing up with people for it. Eddb.io will find you a loop, be aware of price age (how long ago it was that the market was updated), the supply of the source and the demand of the destination (the loop will dry up instantly if you run out of supply or demand and may slowly become less valuable as both supply and demand are reduced.) You can use something like Elite Dangerous Market Connector to push updates to eddb.io to verify if a route is still profitable and help other commanders out as well. It's normally pretty easy to make 2000 to 3000 credits per ton per loop, with longer loops getting up into the 4 or 5k per ton range potentially. Winging up is also huge. If you run with other people on a trade route, you get 5% of their profits as well (and they get 5% of yours). This is extra income from the station, similar to a bounty. If you run with a larger ship, you can easily be making 50 to 100k per loop just from that trade dividend and a lot of larger ship pilots like having other more combat oriented ships along as it lets them go more pure cargo runner and make a lot more overall.

2) As elchris mentioned, I'd highly recommend the Asp Explorer. It is an extremely versatile ship. It can be used extremely well for exploration, works well for light solo combat, moderate group combat and is pretty solid trading, especially for longer distance runs. It has one of the largest jump ranges in the game and is highly maneuverable. It lacks a little bit in punch compared to dedicated combat ships in its tier, but still isn't a slouch. You can do pretty much anything in the game with an Asp Explorer at that tier. You can safely kit it for about 90 to 120 tons of cargo or so, so you can be making 200,000 per loop pretty easily, even with a basic run. I've gotten 200k+ bounties in them as well when working as a group with police support.

3) For factions, are you talking about power play or super power/minor power factions? For super powers, you just get your reputation and rank up to get reputation faster with minor factions and unlock access to systems and ships. For powerplay, it is really more of an end game thing once you are souped up and well established. You probably don't want extra NPCs coming after you right now with no police support and all it unlocks for you is higher end upgrades that won't serve you well anyway vs upgrading to a higher tier of ship.

Personally, I tiered up via an Asp Explorer, to a Type 7, to a Python, to a Type 9 to an Anaconda doing trade runs almost exclusively. Took about 2 weeks in total from when I started doing trade runs about 2/3 of the way to my Type 7 until I was in a basic trade fitted anaconda and another couple days to get it to a balanced mission loadout.

I made literally hundreds of millions doing this. Enjoy. :D

Have they fixed it yet? It was broken with the most recent patch and last I knew it was still being worked on.
