The real problem is that once a person is publicly accused of something, it is out there and you cannot take it back. Even with the biggest "correction announcement" you will not reach the same audience that read the first accusations.
So if we allow name and shame, we open a whole new box there.
Also, and in the case of online game trolls even more importantly, naming and shaming would be the one thing the trolls want. They want recognition no matter what. Meaning if they are named in any context, even the most negative ones, they are happy.
(Just listen to the Lave Radio interview with [redacted] and me again, you will understand the true motive for their actions: Attention, no matter how.)
They are, before all, attention whores. So attention is the one thing we will not give them.
