Also waiting for a patch to the client crash problem, after the last patch I've crashing to desktop way too often.

Poor RNG rolls seem to be my speciality.

The Class 3 dirty roll was not good, but I only had enough stuff for one roll, and decided to give it a try rather than throwing away.

+10% power draw increase
-15% Integrity
+55% thermal load
-3% optimal mass
all for +13% optimal multiplier

+10 power draw on the most power hungry ship system is not good, and the Cutter is quite good for dealing with thermal load, some ships may cook themselves just taking off with that...

Will gather the missing bits for another roll, or maybe try my luck on the Class 3 Clean

As Forest Gump would say, Engineers are like a box of chocolates.

I know this has probably been asked many times, but is there a good guide to how this all works? Especially if updated for 2.1.04, assuming any changes from earlier?

I am just working on my Class 1 FSD, and it was only something like +4% for an clean/efficient one, at least in the Blueprint (haven't done it yet). Is the roll done at Blueprint time? Or actual creation-time?

Roll is done at creation time. The moment you surrender materials and the pointers on the lines start moving back and forth. (To be precise, the result is determined before they stop moving.)

Loriath wrote:Had a long discussion last night With Dawg and Tor about the Engineers. Shame Kharma missed it.

Came to the conclusion that we are done doing Engineers stuff as it is not really needed. Yes, its nice but the grind of finding stuff is killing how we feel about the game and that we need to stop and do a reset in our thinking. We already are aware of what the NPC's are going to be like when we haul stuff, or how we need to react to fighting depending on ships and ranks, so we are going back to doing what WE want to do.

With that, we found an Ice World with some ravines and proceeding to see how far we can fly the Buggies. At one point I was over 300m in the air and this was over relatively flat ground. 0.03 gravity is a blast. Jumps of that height also mean you can fly great distances. My best was 3km from Dawg who was stopped and staring at me being a fool.

No explosions though, so either I "got gud" or I wasn't trying hard enough. More Jumping Mayhem Tonight!

WE'RE BACK!!!

This is basically how I feel, too much grinding. That's why I went back to exploring in an Asp about 1,500-2,000ly out.

My next move is to save up enough for an Anaconda, likely using a cargo-fitted Python, or maybe just a Type 9, if I can find a good, defensive config. Still playing with that.

When I get an Anaconda, I'll grind on the FSD to improve it, maybe only 1-2 other things. I'll use the Anaconda to do some trading and then yet more exploring farther out in the Anaconda.

After that I'm going to level up so I can get a Federal Corvette. But I see that more as 2017.

If I didn't need that stupid fsd mod so bad, I would probably have totally given up on engineers. I probably WILL once I have that top end fsd. I simply don't have the luck to keep throwing the dice like this. Right now, however, I am just doing runs between Sothis and Ceos.

I found a T9 with 3x beam turrets handled self-defense very well against smaller ships - even wings of three. I also had 2x burst cannons in case anyone was stupid enough to fly in front of me. But I also died twice in a T9, trying to fight a Python and an Anaconda. Also limped away into SC a few times. But that was before I learned about high waking out of the system, so I needn't had died if I just ran. You can also try dumping some cargo - they'll ask for more if you don't drop enough. That was anathema to me, but I learned to live with it. Of course, this was pre Horizons, and maybe even pre Power Play. ;)
It's time to give this another go.

The only thing people recommended for 2.1+, that worked well for me (i.e., that I wasn't already doing against the pre-2.1.03 "Dangerous, Deadly, Elite" onslaught, was mines. Nothing makes me yell a "Hell Yeah!" more than some Viper, Vulture or even a FGS that hits 5-6 Class 2 Mines, and blow up, before I wake out. Of course, anything larger isn't going to die ... only I will if I didn't wake in-time (prior to 2.1.03). ;)

That said ...

In re-configuring a Type 9, it's really not worth it for 400t cargo, as all shielding is next to worthless at less than Class 7. And that's just to get to what a Class 4 will do in a Python, all while I configure 272t cargo in the Python. And the Python still has 350 for boost, while the Type 9 is slouching at 2/3rds that.

Yeah, might go back to a Python instead. It was worth a re-visit, but I just reminded myself why I won't do a Type 9.

The most important thing being a Python can land at outposts; I think finding better trade routes makes up for less cargo capacity. In flew the Type 9 w/o shields until I started getting interdicted like crazy. But with running and high waking, I think that may be "safe" again. After all, 532T of cargo capacity does have a quality all its own.

The Type 7 and 9 requiring a large pad is pretty much the final nail. I won't fly without shields, period. Not worth it.

Great... Just murdered someone else.....6,000 bounty for 7 days.....

After he interdicted me and was after my cargo...

Go figure......

This game is walking on vey thin ice at the moment.....

*Edit*

And yes.....He was showing as wanted.....

My name with that faction must be shit.....I've been killing them all night.......

Well the wanted ones anyway....

And finally found Mechanical components........Blew up a few T9's........

Along with...Adders....Haulers.....Vipers.....Asp scouts.....Asp X's......Couriers....Pythons......Anacondas....Diamond backs......

An Elite sidey gave me a run for the money....But sadly perished.......

Tor.....Hold on.......Tor.......Wait a bit.....TOR will you stop fecking firing.......Ok......Tor I know a therapist that can help you....... :D My Cmdr also has small feet
