Re: Question for New Members

I wanted to take advantage of the cooperative multiplayer elements of E:D without being handed rebuy after rebuy by antisocial goons with dedicated PvP outfitting while still learning to handle my ships. I think it was trading at a community goal specifically that made me move to mobius for a solid 6~8 months. I learned that the "pirates" in elite were nothing short of greifers because the game gave them no incentive to be anything else. Sure, they might have actually gone back and scooped my cargo at some point, I wouldn't know because my ASP was a crater 3 seconds after I learned that the throttle down lines were bullshit. They didn't care if they were a little "more" wanted because the game didn't care.

Not that I'm new, mind.

I already knew I was going to go in solo before I even bought the game. Before I started playing, I would listen to some of my friends talk about their adventures in Elite. They played in open and I had heard of their encounters with griefers many times. When I decided to give the game a try I went right to solo because I did not want deal with idiot players while trying to learn the game mechanics.

I still wanted interaction with other human players though, but I didn't know if I wanted to risk my still fresh game assets in open play. I can't afford to re-buy ships all the time because of some griefer "pirates" with itchy trigger fingers. One day I was watching a E:D related Youtube video and Mobius was mentioned. I looked into what the group was all about and that was that.

Ya know, I have plenty of cash these days and it wouldn't really bother me very much to lose a few more ships in open. In fact, I've lost more ships in the last month just screwing around than I have in the previous year and a half. I just don't want to deal with the attitude of the anonymous/twitter generation types. That people like that exist just depresses me, so I choose to avoid them.
It's time to give this another go.

Only played in Solo since picking it up last year, around the 1.0 release -- totally didn't know about the Kickstarter (played Elite II and First Encounters before that). I hadn't been playing too much when someone at my new client mentioned he played the game, and he mentioned Mobius. I joined the European group by mistake, and am now on the USA servers as I should be, playing at night on US Eastern time.

I've learned 10x as much now, just in 6-8 weeks. Even been enjoying (despite frustrations) a few wings, for trade, for combat and most recently for exploration.
