Okay dokey, keep an eye on the power, anything over 100% will need power priority settings, go too high and even this won't help

KK, I've added the 3A power plant. Together with the 5A FSD it takes my consumption to 74%

If I added the 4D thrusters as recommended it would take me over 100% and I haven't even added hangar, Sri, Advanced Discovery, Scanner, weapons, shield boosts, surface scanner etc.

This is kind of fun, especially for you, lol. ;)

If you've only been exploring, you'll probably need to learn about:
Power management (priorities) and turning modules on and off as needed.
PIP management so you have enough power to boost when needed, for weapons when needed, and for shields when needed.
Fire Groups. You should probably have one group with lasers on one trigger and multi cannons on the other, and a second group with your advanced discovery scanner (and if outfitted for serious combat, your KWS).

On the modules screen, you need to set the priority of the FSD and Fuel Scoop (and maybe Cargo Scoop) to 2. That way they shut down when you deploy hard points. You will also need to turn off your AFMU and hangar until you need them (probably while sitting on a planet).

It shows the AFMU and PVH shut down. The FSD and Fuel Scoop are set to priority 2, and they will shut down when the hard points are deployed.

With the hard points retracted (RET) and not using any power, the power is 79.5%.

With the hard points deployed (DEP) the power is 101.8%, but the FSD and Fuel scoop are shut down (orange), so that saves 10.8% and you are really only using 91%.

I'm not sure where you are getting your power figures. You may have some higher rated modules in your ship on accident.

Life Support E4
Power Distributor A3
Sensors D5
Fuel Tank 32 C5
Cargo Rack 64 E6
Shield Generator A3
Detailed Surface Scanner C1
Planetary Hangar + SRV G2
Fuel Scoop E1 (the only size this station sells. I will get a better one)
Advanced Discovery Scanner C1
Planetary Approach Suite I1

1x empty internal compartment that had a 4 space cargo hold

Weapons:

Default ones, namely, 2x Pulse Laser F1

Utility mounts and 2x small & 2x medium hard points empty.

I want to be able to put up a good fight and hold my own if I'm attacked. What should I install?

Current power consumption is 91% with nothing deactivated.

I think you might have 1 pulse and 1 beam laser, which = 106%.
That setup will support 2 beams, but they won't last long.
It will also support more powerful fixed versions of the pulse and burst lasers.
And etc.

If I was going to use an Asp for serious bounty/res/smuggling, I might use something like this.
Just a bit more expensive though. :shock:

I prefer more powerful fixed lasers for taking down shields, and gimballed weapons for targeting power plants or FSD or drives.
