If it's true that they've canned off-line and never intend to implement it, well then I've been tricked.

What a pathetic bait and switch money grab. And I fell for it. :x

Reasons are too many and too tiresome to add here (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=58789), but the way the cancelation was attempted slipped into the newsletters was outrageous. I'm actually quite disgusted.

I've had fun, but unless FD does a complete 180, I'm out of here.

Thanks for all the fish. :)

That's a shame. I was looking forward to hailing you and discussing audio set ups on long journeys. Respect your reasoning though. I live in hope this game will work out. If you do go ahead with this decision then I wish you all the best. Maybe Ian Bell will come out of retirement eh? I'll keep an eye out for that and maybe we'll meet again.

Take care, Commander, it's been fun chatting.

Thanks for all the fish. :)

Really sorry to hear that, mate. It's been great trading chat/insults/music and whatnot with you since the group was set up. I can understand your reasons and feel them myself to some degree but am going to stick with it for a while longer. Did you back the kickstarter or buy the game through the store?

Keep in touch.

Neill.

Cheers you two! I'm not complaining about the community that's for sure. The best I've ever seen, and it has been a true pleasure.

@Neill: I am/was a premium beta backer.

I've just lost faith.

Nothing can restore your faith Globus?

Cheers my friend.

I really feel FD has betrayed the trust of many of it's premier backers. We're an old bunch. From before the internet. We want to be able to play our games off-line on our pc's after the servers shut down.
Off-line mode has been promised since kickstarter and up until a week before gamma, where the cut is sneaked into a newsletter. Again, disgusted.

But I see the trick. Get the old off-line geezers to fund the game, and then ditch them for huge preppy on-line market at release.

The only way I'll stick around, is if David Braben delivers on his promise: an off-line game option as well. And even then, my trust is broken.

Bah. Just a game. :)

This is sad news. I hate to see anyone give up on the game because of this, especial you, Globus, but I fully understand every ones frustration. I hope FD has a rethink and maybe SP will be back on in a year or two, but I'm not getting my expectations up anymore. Take care, and I hope to see you again some day.

Globus, you're assuming they knew from the start that offline mode could not be implemented. Have you considered that they really planned to have it, but then found out that they underestimated the quantity of data required to make a whole galaxy alive and realized they couldn't store 4 TB of data on the client's machine? I have no inside information, obviously, but as a developer that seems quite possible to me.

Of course I agree that the fact they announced it like a BTW really sucked, but is it enough to completely give it up? I too would be sad not to see you around anymore.

Drew Wagar wrote a little blog about the "no more offline" issue which actually picked me up a little.
It is written very balanced and he also puts himslef in the "disappointed" camp.
But then he goes on and describes the vision of E:D and made me understand a little better why an offline mode really might have been too restricted to please even the ones who are sad right now (me included). So presuming FD really did try and saw no way of pulling it off without compromising this vision, I can now relate better to the decision.

Flip, I won't get upset with you, but

claiming that FD found out A WEEK BEFORE GAMMA that it wasn't doable,

and then decides to try to slip this fact by their backers in a newsletter,

tells me that FD is either grossly incompetent,

or

the more obvious, bait and switch money grab.

In either case, I'm truly gutted.

When FD was looking for backing, they conveyed trust and promises. They obviously no longer need backing, and guess what?....

Pathetic.
