Federal Corvette and Anaconda firepower

Postby smartroad » Wed Jan 20, 2016 8:32 pm

On the face of it the Corvette seems a very powerful, after all it has 2 huge hardpoints. As I little investigation I checked on Coriolis.

I fitted Plasma Accelerators for large points and gimbal beams for others. The Corvette scores 122MJ/s but the Anaconda gets 144MJ/s.

So on the face of it the Corvette doesn't seem as powerful overall than the Anaconda. The Cutter is even worse 116MJ/s.

Do these figures match anyone who has one?

In theory the Anaconda is more powerful but when you want to get a faster moving target the Corvette gets the job done better.
Mine is fitted with bursts and pulses. If we get C4 lasers the Corvette will be even better

Yeah at best the corvette is on par with conda straight up damage wise.

But the corvette is more manoeuvrable and much better hardpoint placement which makes a suprisingly huge difference in combat.
Where the anaconda almost require turrets but gimballed are on. I have found myself tempted to test fixed weapons on he corvette.

It's also in my opinion ion that the damage rating on coriolis is a bit useless.
Damage is dealt on a curve where distance makes a big difference.
So when you are slightly more manoeuvrable you can be stay closer.
I find myself almost as close with the vette as I was in my python so perceived dps is much higher in the vette.

But don't misunderstand, the conda is no slouch and it a real do everything ship. Which is why it will always have a spot in my fleet. But so does the vulture, python and the vette ;)

Huge hardpoints are a bit pointless now since the range of guns are so limited when more huge weapons come this might change drastically.

I agree with what the others have said. The conda looks stronger on paper, but the Vette has more 'on target' time and you can stay closer, producing faster kills. Plus, when fitted with 6 A class shield boosters..... you get 1600 mj shields! :D

Yes as you blast off Into the distance chasing targets and my vulture chases like an excited kid struggling to catch up!

I prefer my Conda with two 3c beams, two 2c turreted pulse, one 4c, one 3c and two 1c cannons. I also prefer the weapons layout with all laser on the up side and all cannons down. Not to mention the better jump range.

it was that which prompted me to get another Anaconda and leave the Corvette just for work closer to home. of course my pig-headedness means i refused to sell any of my other ships to finance outfitting her, so i am as close to being broke as i've been in a long time

she fills the gap between the Cutter and Corvette, hence being christened the bloody horrible name of 'Space Putty' - but i've found her to be excellent for planetary surface POI hunts and skimming too, she's better than the Python at that job.

i just need another 20 mil to upgrade her shield from 'B' to 'A'...

With a 5A fuel scoop the Vette's poor jump range isn't an big of a deal as I though it would be. Mine is 12.57ly and even making the 150ly trek to Li Youn Rui space for the occasional (and pricey) upgrade isn't horrible.

I have done the same with my FdL, added an additional class 4 fuel tank and a fuel scoop when 'zipping' around the bubble.

Maia (430Ly i think?) is a different story though, i have made that trip in a Cutter, a Python, an Anaconda - and of course a Corvette, in which i thought i'd never get there. on a positive note though, i got a huge swag of foghorn exploration data from that Corvette trip which kinda sorta made it worth it.
