Think my conda build is a decent enough 35 minute ship. And I'm not really that interested in scanning (got my name on a few stars already)

So contemplating just burning for waypoints.

By 35 minutes I mean I can cover 1k ly plot in 35 minutes if I just burn and scoop.
So "theoretically" I could make the 60k journey in about four days if I just burn it...

Rule 2: No such thing as overkill, as long as there are reloads.

I've been ready for this ever since I posted Exploring in the new Horizon back in late August.

As far as materials for FSD/AFM/SRV are concerned, if anyone is looking for the premium stuff then this shared sheet is an excellent source of information

yeah I doubt i'll be surface scanning much either.. Just the simple system scan while refueling and maybe star surface scan then move on. Not interested in making it profitable, thats not what this journey is about for me. I'm happy with system scans there and back to build a small nest egg to cash in when/if I make it back in one piece. Other than that I just want to beat my own personal distance of Sag A*.

Didn't I read somewhere that the trip will take about 10 weeks to get there? If so, isn't that about 1000LY a day if you want to stay with the group? So if that only takes about an hour or less just jumping, and you want to play more, what do you do? I suppose there is always CQC. Or you can spend more time exploring. I imagine I'll do a little of both. Getting home can go a lot faster.
It's time to give this another go.

The 1000 LYs a day schedule on the "distant Worlds" thing is actually a nice one to have, Roger Wilco Jr. It allows you to keep up with the pack even if you're out for a few days. The spare time does also allow for organised exploration of planets for a few days at each stretch goal. And you can always stray off the path for a few days to get some scans of systems no one else is in, if you want to maximise your profits a bit.

If you have a about 35 ly'r ship I have timed a 990 ly journy to be closer to 35 minutes, including replotting for refuel stars.

Well that was about what it took me to reach the california nebula and shapley 1 on a couple of test runs with the conda.
Took my clipper at about 24 ly's range managed the same in about 55 minutes.

Of course, that's jump, scoop+honk, jump. no in depth scanning, not even the sun (I spend the time aligning for next jump instead) if you do bother scanning planets you can easily spend five hours just making 10 jumps.

I already have my name on a few suns so don't really care for first's, that might also be a problem considering I might just get bored with the whole thing and head off home :\

Maybe I'l just simply burn ahead, I could probably make around 7-8k ly's a day considering...

My intention is to meet at Start Point then travel at my own pace, meet up at a few of the key waypoints along the way, wont be really interested in deep scanning anything until after Sag A, as i have enough with me name on already, plus by the time you get back your first discovery hope might already be claimed :o

Interesting thread on the main forums. I didn't realize that you can now deploy heat sinks from super cruise (in Horizons). So now they are more useful if you don't do stupid things like fly into a sun while watching TV. Also, HD 148937* has a 9.7G planet. :o

*edit - only about 1500LY out.
It's time to give this another go.

I've pretty much settled on this as my DWE ship. I really think planetary landings is a game changer for exploration, especially for a super long trip like this. With smaller and D rated equipment, even on low-g planets, just a slight lapse in concentration can lead to losing shields and hull damage, if not outright destruction. I still fly into suns, so I expect to have more than a few hard landings. I really wanted A rated power plant and shields and settled for larger D rated thrusters and power distributor. I'm also bringing two buggies. I'll have to use some Jumponium, but the materials are fairly easy to find and I already have all the stock I expect to need. I think that with these bigger and better modules I should be able to survive little mistakes. I'm afraid that a lot of people with small and D rated modules aren't going to make it.

P.S. They have over 450 commanders signed up now.
It's time to give this another go.
