Flip, how does your viper do in combat?

I'm thinking of kitting a Cobra out in a similar manner. Not as fast or maneuverable I know, but the added cargo space and jump range should mean it's much more adaptable and could still function as a trade ship.

It does very well. I made most of my money bounty hunting with it (nearly 700 kills), and so far the only ships that made me give up are the Elite pirate Anacondas you can find in some USS. I can take regular Anacondas found in extraction sites or nav beacons, but those Elite pirates are too well armed. :)

The only problem, cept being inferior to the cobra (there's a thread https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=55994) :D Is the limited range. High end FSD's are expensive, came across a 4A and 4B FSD's which cost 1.5 million and 0.5 miliion, I have no where near that amout of credits.

At one point I managed to get a Viper to 14ly with the 2 stock pulse lasers and some upgraded components, but with 2 class 2 guns and 2 class 1 guns that range would have been much lower.

So It's a kitted out Cobra for me. At least till I can afford the tiere stuff.

Yeah, mine can only jump about 10 Ly, but I'm using it for bounty hunting, not for exploration, so that's OK. :)

Oh, and I've killed many NPC Cobras! 8-)

Although I loved the Cobra III, I'm sticking with the Viper for now and the posts on this thread have been really helpful. I know it's more of a fighter but as a challenge I want to see how much of a trader it can be too. Earlier today I upgraded my power plant and got another 2T cargo space. I will probably grind it out to see how much engine capacity or whatever that's called I can get out of my ship.

I don't really understand the Outfitting stats (only down to laziness) that much so on that basis I follow my own logic that if I can't be that bothered tweaking around with the power draw priorities and systems on/off stuff then my safe(ish) bet would be to upgrade the power plant first. More cargo space for obvious reasons. Next up will probably be Frame Shift Drive but I don't know if that's a juggling act with fuel tanks (and their added weight) so I may have to look at the details in Outfitting more closely if I really have to. Weapons wise no upgrades. It will have to be running away if I'm out gunned but that's part of the challenge. I'm expecting to fail gloriously for some reason or another, systems shutting down whatever, but that's the risk I'm taking 'avin' a go.

It would be cool to hear if anyone can manage to get a Hauler combat capable.

Well I just got my Orange viper back........

I must say....Sheeeeeeeeeeeet what have they done to it.......

It's not my old viper....They have kold kilt it...........

It's now got the turning circle of a London bus....I could not stay on any ones tail at the fed distress and did not take anyone out in about half an hour of play.......They were running rings around me......It felt really slow and sluggish.....

Gonna dump it and do a bit more grinding and try a Cobra.......

Pity....I loved my old viper......

Did you outfit it, Kharma, or are you on the default setup? I upgraded mine immediately when I bought it and it doesn't feel that bad compared to beta 2.

Vipers drink heavily and the tab at the end of the night is a hefty one.
Meaning, Vipers consume alot of fuel and for some reason, topping the tank is more exspensive than other ships.
Go figure

I noticed the outrageous fuel consumption when I got my Viper, soon got rid of it to go back to my trusty Hauler.
