Greeting fellow pilots,

I aquired ED just a couple of days ago on sale so I am pretty much a noob. The first time I heard about a game called "Elite" I was 13 years old in a magazine for "Home Micros". I had just bought my Amstrad CPC6128 at the time. I was completely fascinated while reading it and decided I want this game. As events turned out, I never managed to obtain it but I also never forgot it even after many years. I gave a shot to E.V.E. online as well but decided it's not for me. It resembles a lot a second life, and I am already busy trying to have a real one. Elite is different, it's more loose, no monthly payments so I do no feel so compelled to "play it because I don't want to waste my money". Been there done that in the past when I was trying my hand with mmorpgs. Never again. I'm too old for this  .

So why I applied to join Mobius? Because I hate it when my hard work goes down the drain when I encounter someone who is just in a bad mood, or he's a troll and a leech. Some people would say, "hey, it's a reflection of human society, it's how people are". Perhaps, but I think I have enough of that in real life itself, what's the point of having it inside a game which I use exactly to escape from it?! My goal is to enjoy this, and if I'm lucky even to play together with some of you although I'm awful at socializing :? . So here I am.

Welcome Cmdr.

I never had the fortune to play the original Elite, but sure am glad I found this version. Growing up n Canada, we were awash in C64's and Tandy computers. Some of us even had Amiga's and Atari systems. Although I did have a Z80 Sinclair, though it did little as I had no access to any resources for it. If we only had the internet back then.

The bad part of starting new in ED is that your starting area is not Random. There are only 2 or 3 stations that one can start in and unfortunately for new players, they large populations mean you are going to run into the "Crazies" quite early and often. When I started, it took me 2 days to realize I had to "Get the Fudge out of Rodge" and I moved out to the edge of the starter systems as fast as I could. Took me a while before I found Mobius and have been in here ever since.

Seems that is what a lot of people do. Sort of like growing up in a small village. As soon as you can, you leave for greener pastures. Then you realize that the little place wasn't so bad. ;)

Welcome to Mobius, commander Charlie2alpha!

I agree with you that we have enough 'grief' in real life, and don't need it here! :)

Feel free to add your name to the In game friend list thread and check out our TeamSpeak servers to easily chat with, and possibly wing up with other commanders. Also, make sure to check the Policy page if you haven't already.

There is a lot of great info on the message board, and we have compiled a long list of Tips and Tricks to help new players acclimate to the game while having fun.

Welcome man. I go back to the old TRS-80 days... LOL. I have the same idea, don't want my hard work to go down the drain.
