You guys aren't all that bad

Postby Vek17 » Thu Nov 12, 2015 3:31 am

I primarily play in open, I am a big advocate of PvP and am a pirate. I came into Mobius tonight with curiosity, I was curious about how people would react to me flying on the unpopular side of the CG in Cayutorme in the combat zone. I have heard many things about this group and I expected some very negative things to be said to me when I fired on other CMDR''s. Initially I chose my side, declared my allegiance in local chat and people ran, I killed a few and not much was said.

Then I started noticing something, about half the the players stopped coming to the zone which was expected, but some of the other kept coming back for more every time. After a bit one of them messaged me complementing my piloting and thanked me for making tonight the most exciting night of Elite for him to date. This caught me off guard so I friended him and we talked for about 20 minutes, I tried to help him properly combat fit his Anaconda and I gave him a bit of background about who I was. The more we talked the more excited he seemed to get, in the end it made my night too.

This was probably one of the most positive player interactions I have had in Elite and it was a result of me looking for PvP in a PvE focused group. I am sure my presence in the group will be looked negatively by some players, but you guys seems pretty alright. See you in a conflict zone.

While some of us are strick No PVP, but that is our own personal thing, it is not "No PVP ever for everyone" as some claim we try to promote. PVP is allowed in Mobius as long as the rules are followed.. I am glad you and those you fought againt had fun.

players going into a conflict zone are there for combat and having players know that they may be targeted by another player give them the choice to leave or join in, its all about consensual combat, open is a little different as combat can be entirely a random encounter and many players don't enjoy that randomness. many from our group enjoy CQC because its consensual, myself will often pop into open whenever I feel like some pvp, my encounters may not always be consensual but when I play in open its because im prepared to play in open.

many pvp player think that all 14000 of us play exclusively in Mobius but I think you will find that a good few thousand come into this group to play the game without unwanted interruptions and yet still enjoy the multiplayer element of elite.

Hello,
One of the reasons why when I come across a popular CZ, I do it in solo. I've nothing against PvP play. I'm all for choice, respecting people's choice and them respecting mine. I'm not a big fan of PvP but I have indulged in it in other games, and have lost any interest in it.
Most here are probably in the same boat. They don't run from a PvP encounter but have no interest in it and would rather just walk away.

Have fun, fly safe.

I think you will find that most of us that do play in this group in CZ are not afraid of PvP or hate it, but we tend to avoid shooting other people even on the other side because we don't want to hamper the enjoyment someone is having.

I have been in quite a few CZ's with other commanders over my time here. I can count the amount of time that I have been fired upon on one hand. And only twice have I NOT been asked if I was into some PvP. The two times I was battling another Cmdr, one I started myself albeit accidentally :P , I of course returned fire. It was a good battle. Neither time was I killed. Being beaten badly, I made a run and was not pursued on one occasion, and beat the other Cmdr. down and they ran, and I didn't pursue.

Even when I was beaten and badly damaged, I repaired and returned and was not fired on again by the same Cmdr. I did tell them they got the better of me and thanks for not destroying me even though I was clearly outmatched and out-gunned.

I usually announce my presence to other Cmdrs, and they seem to do the same to me. If I am up for it, I will tell them, or I let them know I will stay out of their way. In the case where there are a few on the side I am supporting, I usually get asked to wing up, or I let them know I will try to change instance so we are not fighting over the same scraps. Even if it means I have to pop to Solo.

I am glad you had a good experience. It shows just how cool our group is and can be. And thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge with a member of our group. Now that person can pass along what you taught them, and make someone else here a better player. Pay it forward.

Our biggest thing is to not ruin another Commanders time playing, because we wouldn't want that ourselves.

Hello again Vek17! Glad you had some good fun, and i'll be sending you a bill for that cobra of mine you popped. Not really, I knew what I was getting into shooting you, but I couldnt just run away and let you get my wingman. It was fun though. I mostly avoid pvp but every now and then I like to get into a scrap.

@Vek17
It sounds like you play as a gentleman pirate and are a credit to open PVP. If everyone played like you there would be little need for this group.

That is, I'm saying that I'd rather by interdicted by a reasonable human than an insane NPC. It's too bad that my experiences in open have been far less than ideal and I've lost all taste for ever trying it again.
It's time to give this another go.

I had actually decided to leave you be before you fired on me, doesn't always feel right aggressing onto smaller ships.

Now that's the spirit! :) Hey, you guys aren't all that bad, either. ;) (JK, you are one of us now, too! :P )

Welcome to the group! As others already have said, a lot of us are open to many different playstyles.
Playing inside of Mobius is just one of them. There we keep the rules. Most also hail before engaging in CZ in Mobius, just to make double sure the PvP is consensual, although this was not written down. It evolved by itself and just makes the meeting even more pleasurable.

Hope to meet you also sometime, but I am still waiting for the final part of my gaming rig. Will be playing again end of November :(
Until then have fun and fly safe!

I play Mobius because it makes the most logical sense. There's no chance of humanity making it past Mars by continuing its petty tribalism and warmongering. Open Play tends to promote both of these things. I call it "crabs in a bucket". If you've ever seen a bucket full of crabs, you might note the creatures' tendency to pull down and hold back those that try to escape.

Mobius promotes laissez-faire play - the group doesn't actively attempt to influence the gameplay of others. If you wanna trade in peace, trade in peace. If you wanna fight other people, there's CZs. If you wanna sit on your butt at the station and chatter at NPCs, hey, it's your galaxy.

This may appear puzzling for some, and even frustrating/angering for a really small group of folks. All I've got to say in response to people who don't understand the challenges of the environment?

Go read up on the Apollo 13 incident. Then come back here and tell me those guys weren't total badasses.
