Adding my opinions..

PvPers come in a couple of varieties. First, there's the competitive players who want to be the best. The challenge is in playing against other skilled pilots in what is typically consensual combat. CQC provides an outlet for this flavor, but I'm sure there's an appetite for things like larger scale combat, and perhaps some ambushes, etc.

Another variety is the predatory PvPers. They're not interested in consensual combat with other capable pilots. They don't get their thrills from white-knuckled, teeth-gritting, edge-of-your-seat combat. No, their jollies come from harassing and inflicting grief on others. One of the replies on Reddit nailed it. These are the internet sociopaths.

Mobius represents (up to) 13,500 pilots who just want to play a video game as an explorer, a space trader, or perhaps even a bounty hunter (who prefers slightly more predictable targets). However, to the predatory PvPers, that's 13,500 potential victims that they can't easily get at, and that frustrates them.

It really doesn't matter if the "bounty" is real or not. It's one internet sociopath's attempt to upset the peace of mind that is supposed to come from playing in a PvE private group.

Not all of us consider ourselves PvE players just because we prefer the Mobius group. I'm happy to PvP anytime I have a few multiples of rebuy and a combat fit, but I have very little patience for being caught in a type 6 by some hapless loser who wouldn't dare fight me if there was the slightest risk.

Back on point, I can't see the purpose of the bounty. The OP has to know that he's likely going to lose way more resources than it will ever cost Mobius, and to what end? Mobius blows up, loses 3-15 million credits (lets be generous and say 25 million), then respawns and kicks his killer. The OP loses twice what mobius did (if he's lucky) and everybody else just shrugs and continues on.

Honestly, if I were mobius and someone came at me with a hauler I'd just drop my shields and taunt them. I lose one rebuy with the knowledge that someone will be harassing the OP for his 100m payout.

I know i asked this in the "wanted" thread but how would such a payment be transfered?

The scanner/bounty bug has been squashed (well capped at a million) so from I can guess we are left with cargo handoff.
So lets take the highest unit priced commodity I know of, painite at 35k CR/u .

It will still be 1428t of cargo. and that is dropping and scooping practically 3 type 9's full of cargo.
Doesn't sound like a party to me.

Not to mention I have yet to find a station actually selling painite, it has to be mined directly.
and that would take a while but even palatinum, palladium or imperial slaves are worth maybe half as much PR unit.

Does somebody really think scooping 3000t of cargo sound like easy money?
Seriously you could probably make that much playing the game regularly than doing that..

Excuse me for going off-topic, but is this referring to players only being able to gain 1 million in bounties no matter how many innocents they slaughter? I seem to remember players having much larger bounties in the past, but I can't remember the last time I checked Galnet. If that is the case, I can see how douchebags could abuse that game mechanic to transfer large sums of credits. I also find it hilarious that in Braben's grand vision it was just those same huge bounties that were supposed to put a check on reckless PVP abuse. :|

Once a player accumulates some cash, which is extremely easy these days, then the risk of an insurance rebuy charge does absolutely nothing to deter griefing PVP. If they want to make things more fair, they should make some changes. I'd like to see something like this, but I'm not sure how it could be policed.

If a player is destroyed by another player (innocent trader, not fighting back, and etc - not in CZs, and etc), the insurance for that player would be waived and cargo would be restored. This could even be paid out of a player based humanitarian fund, and I'd be happy to drop the first 100 million in the pot. The offending player would get a large fine (in addition to a bounty) to be paid when destroyed by other players or NPCs. It would be very likely the offending player would be destroyed in high security systems, and becoming less so until he is almost free to go in anarchy systems. During the attack, a distress call can be sent to nearby players if they want to help, but also figure a lot of NPC cops will show up, too. Anyway, so when this player is destroyed, he can pay his insurance and get his ship back, but he also loses 1/2 of his assets. Those assets could go into the survivors fund. For extreme cases, the true sociopaths can start over with a Sidey and 1000 credits.
It's time to give this another go.

I heard it was even more exploitable than that, something about if a player cargo scanned another player with illicit cargo this would generate a bounty, every single time...
Getting scanned in a t9 or something full of illicit cargo easily became a min PR 10 second scan so after just a few minutes of this people made 100's of millions.

Even heard some where ebaying scans, thus selling credits for real money.
I'm not to certain about the specifics of this since the bounty cap was pretty much patched just a week or so after i started playing.
And with the bounty changes in 1.3 it was moved from generating bounty to a fine, back then bounties could be paid instantly like fines now.

Seriously a bounty system has never put a dampener on rampant pvp.
Just look at Eve online, where players could set bounty on another player.
And we had single players with very large bounties on them, like if you ebayed same amount it could buy a pretty decent car.
It was either carried as a badge of (dis)honor or they sinply got an alt account and shot themselves and collected the money themselves. In reality putting money on a guy was about as effective as giving it to them directly.

Wow, that's just pathetic. I had no clue.

And Professor Grubbly-Plank, or whatever that CODE chicks name is, who keeps calling "us" care-bears - doesn't she realize that maybe decent people don't want to be associated in any way with their vile putrid stink?
It's time to give this another go.

The amount of Bullshit in the reddit thread is astounding, especially from Gluttony Fang.
