Do you have any "odd" habits?

Postby Gorf » Mon Oct 05, 2015 7:41 pm

No, Kharma - not that "habit".

Just found a nice undiscovered Earthlike - the first one I've seen with rings. So I went through my usual routine with new earthlikes which was a bit hampered because of those rings, and that's when it occurred to me that what I do is a bit weird. Whenever I find one I get a selfie with the debug camera, even though there's not really anything to discern one earthlike from another.

Do you do anything that's just plain odd?

When you put it that way, I tend to take selfies around ringed gas giants that I think look cool, whether or not they're anything special.

I have some throttle hotkeys that I use (50%, 75%, and 100%) And when flying around in super cruise when I get close enough to the station/destination I press the 75% hotkey...then a few moments later... I press it again. And then again. I guess in my head it's just to "make sure" that I'm not going to overshoot the target, but it does seem a little obsessive compulsive O.o

I took "selfies" only kind of selfie I have ever taken btw.
Fortunately I have yet to meet someone with a selfistick since that would probably earn me an assault charge...
Anyhoo digressing.

As mention exploration snaps is pretty much the reason to go exploring and for special planets or views I have even done some vidcaps, coming in from night side of the planet and flying in a path creating a sped up version of a sunrise until I fly away from the planet, mostly in debug mode but some minor course correction is needed.
Also for taking screenshots inside the cockpit you can hide/disable Hud display with ctrl+alt+g.
You can actually dock easily enough with hud off, you just need to remember your bay number and the landing target indicator still shows up :p

I also tend to think of retracting my weapons as a sort of safety function. I thus tend to fly around res's with weapons retracted unless I am actually targeting something I intend to kill.

Oh, you mean in-game. No - nothing really odd that I do in-game.
It's time to give this another go.

About earth-likes, I'm only a weekend discoverer.. I found one and I want to go back there.
The star has a really long and difficult name, the galaxy map search only works before the "sector"
part and that leaves a very big space of stars... is there a way?

I have this habit (=obsession) to line up the targeting circle dead center when making hyperspace jumps.

Scooping fuel is very much like making love to a beautiful woman. First check the target is hot enough,
then approach slowly. Once close enough, pull out your scoop and fill her up. After you're done just
gently pull away, turn around and leave.

when jumping i always press X (0 throttle) twice during the countdown. then again to make sure. and did i press X? can't remember, i'd better press it again. oh, and press X.

...all because one time in a Hauler i pressed X once on entering a new system, but it ignored it and flew into the sun. once bitten, 50 times shy.
