Ahh...yeah, just tried again and got the actual 'servers are down' message.

Although, I was in the process of trying to jump to a new system this time, when it booted me. Let's hope Red isn't hanging out inside a star.

Thinking of trying an Anaconda for the third time...

the third time was the charm for me, i had tried using my Annie 1 and 2 for combat but they were really just armed traders. then later on i saw VictoriaG's loadout for combat and built something similar and wow! what a difference. she is the only ship that i prefer fighting in more than a Vulture, which i didn't think was possible. (i named her Siren, as she lures other ships to their deaths)

the secret was using gimballed weapons instead of turrets, and the best thrusters you could possibly afford for manouverability. cargo capacity is relatively tiny - around 160t i think - when compared to Annie's 400t capacity, but it's horses for courses - Siren is made for killing, not cargo

in a CZ i still use a Vulture - at over 400 mil to buy, taking Siren in there is too risky because she can't run away when things go bad. likewise for Strong Signal Sources, i'll only go into those with a Vulture. but in a RES, WSS, USS, or Nav Point, Siren rocks. she's definitely the most enjoyable ship i know of for fighting in.

----> since building Siren, i applied the same weapon theory to Annie the trader - and then tested it by taking her into a few RESes and USSes and she did great. but the 400t capacity means the shields had to be downgraded of course. so it's a lot more risky to fight in her.

Frag Cannons hurt a lot...

...I just wish they had more ammo.

Went to a CZ in the current beta - seems everything (NPCs, that is) and their grandmother's socks use frag cannons almost exclusively. And naturally, NPCs never run out of ammo ... "fun" - not.

Plus, combat is a little different than it was in 1.2 when I still flew an Anaconda...I'm curious to see how it feels.

Plus, you know, it's been a while, and I don't seem to be able to stay content for long : P

Thoughts? Perks of trading in a 'Conda as opposed to a Python? I mean...being able to land anywhere is a major major plus, in my book...but...I'm not exactly an expert trader.

Python is a great all-arounder actually. I had a tough time with the Anaconda when I first upgraded and actually traded it back in.However, out of boredom, I decided to give it another shot and outfitted it for combat and some trade with 256t cargo. I love it now.

The frustrating part of owning it the first time was trying to get through the mail slot in each station to land. Can be a bit frustrating when you are bouncing up and down on the top and bottom of the slot. I fitted the size 2 module with an Auto-Dock, and then little by little as I got better with its positioning coming out of the station I started flying into the station without the autodock until I ultimately dropped it to expand upon the modules more suitable for my playstyle. I dropped the 4A Interdictor for a 2A interdictor and placed a 4A scoop so I can travel infinitely without having to dock to refuel.

Here is my buildout for multi-tasking, but a bit combat focused - if you are looking for a build:

I swapped my loadout around a couple times and am currently having a ton of fun :D Thanks so much for some of the suggestions (like using an docking computer) they've actually been quite helpful.

I think I may actually keep it this time.
