Vulture... hmm...

Postby Falcon_D » Tue Sep 01, 2015 6:49 am

Hello,
I've been reading alot of postings about how good a Vulture is in combat for sometime now. Been trying to save up for my Python while grinding out rep for my Clipper, so I had some credit lying around. Last night finally gave in and decided to get a nearly 'A' spec'd Vulture just to try it out.

I never thought I'd like it, cause on the outside it really reminds me of my Asp. From the bulky exterior to the dual seat config. I thought I would never like piloting it.

What a revelation it's been. It might look clumsy but it can easily maneuver better than my Courier. With a single large burst laser the cap never seems to run dry even with 3 pips in Weapons. My Courier and Cobra are faster though. I realize that the Vulture is a pure fighting ship while the Cobra, the Courier and the Asp are supposed to be multi-purpose ships. But right now I'm going on the path of specific ship for specific purposes.

I will probably trade in my Asp, Courier and Vulture for the Python when I can finally afford it.

So now I welcome a new member to my fleet. The Vulture.

Cobra - Smuggler/Small trader/explorer
Asp - Trader
Courier - Fighter/Bounty hunter/Smuggler/Small trader
Vulture - Fighter

When the Vulture came out, I was already sitting in a Clipper which I still find the best looking ship in the game so I completely skipped it. Switched to the Python right after, but I keep hearing awesome stuff about Vultures when it comes to combat. I'll need to try one out myself some time.

Glad you like it and welcome to the pure pewpew club :)

I fly a vulture and I have no urge to buy a python. The vulture will easily take down elite anacondas and pythons with some careful positioning and flying. Tiddles is bleeding awesome. Manoeuvrable, reasonably quick with a lot of power. I run 4 pips on my weapons and 2 on my shields in combat. 2 x Gimballed C3 beams will strip shields in no time and will obliterate an eagle with one discharge. Occasionally. I cant runb SCB's because of power limitations and power management can be a pain but boy does it rule the CZ. With occasional runs to the edge to recharge my shields.

I have a combat Vulture parked up in my hangar. It's great for combat but I must admit that since I got my Python I'm starting to think that the Vulture isn't needed. I set up the Python mainly for trading with enough weapons to defend itself, but it is proving to be very good at combat, and with a few tweaks to the configuration it could be even better....
I might end up selling the Vulture to pay for better weapons on the Python.....

I'm sticking to the vulture for ranking up purposes. Hence I attack deadly, dangerous & elite ships bigger than me in the CZ's. I believe, and I may be wrong, that a python would hinder my scoring. I am sorely tempted to try an anaconda with an eagle or a sidey, but they evaporate under the glare of my C3 beams.

Vulture is good to destroy things quick (C3) just make sure you have enough extra cr for pre-upgrades fresh from the shipyard :)

Thanks for the loadout post.

I'm trying to run Shield boosters and shield cells, but having power management problems. I have not tried C3 beams, just C3 canon and C3 burst. Seems pretty deadly to me.

I've kind of decided to put my FSD and my cargo scoop as priority 5 so that they both go offline when I deploy my guns. Currently I have 1 A shield booster and a C1A shield cell bank. So my cargo scoop turns off when my guns come up.

Regards.

The vultur's Achilles heel is the power plant.
It is after all a small ship with two large guns.

Any fitting will be tight on power, just a-rating the vulture and you must practically drop all shield boosters, and do not even consider a kW scanner above d-rating.
Even while just using large pulse lasers.

i've been an advocate of the Vulture as a fighter for a long time now, but a while back i began to use them for smuggling and faction missions too (e.g. light cargo runs)

a perfect example of this is with my current game - as well as a pure-combat Vulture, i had an unarmed Cobra as a fast mission runner (with the same skin as in your sig :) ) and yesterday i bought an Asp as a trader, though it never made a run. today i took the Cobra out with some contraband and got interdicted TWELVE TIMES by the same NPC between the star and the destination station, as well as around 5 or 6 supercruise stop-starts to gain a bit of distance before he hit me again

enough was enough, i stripped and sold both the Asp and Cobra and bought a second Vulture with 20t capacity for missions. on her very first run, she got interdicted by a similar NPC, she ripped his balls to shreds in an instant, and carried on her merry way without further incident

i had a mission for a CZ and couldn't be bothered going home to get my pure-fighter Vulture, so i took this cargo-carrier instead and she held up beautifully, destroyed her 8 targets and then went into the RES and earned a million, then off to another station to drop off her cargo. my Cobra or Asp would have been damaged at least once somewhere along that trip

you must practically drop all shield boosters

it depends on your power management i guess. i typically run one A0 and one E0 on the majority of mine, but i don't use a KWS.
