Yeah i had a play around with them in the Beta before they went live and that was enough to put me off using them in the live game :D

Gimballed is just fine for me, recently fitted 3 x C3 beams and they work splendidly :) They fire just long enough to empty the capacitor, just as the heat is just starting to set the warning off. By which time pretty much anything in their aim is dust :D

Thanks for the input everyone, probably going to go for the Python first. Fancy giving that a whirl, plus I can kit it out better from the off :) can always sell it if it doesn't live up to expectations

I've got a Python that I put together primarily for trading, with enough armament to defend itself.
I'm finding that it's actually quite good at combat and I've done a bit of bounty hunting which was very successful. With a few tweaks I could make it even tougher, so I think I might be keeping it around for a while. I might even be tempted to sell the Vulture that is my usual combat ship....

Mainly trying to remember what to do atm. Been so long since I done anything other than scan, scoop and scoot to the next system. Like the new python sounds like a thunder storm approaching :)

Love the Vulture though that thing handles like a dream and packs a real punch 8-)

Hello,

Congratulations on your epic exploration and welcome back commander. I have done some short explorations and like you came to enjoy it a lot, I already have an asp ready to go on my great exploration but waiting for horizons and the srv.

So right now my main enjoyment comes from combat, using a cobra for undermining, merc and bounty hunting.

For a combat ship have you considered the Fer De Lance? It is a very big fighter designed for combat.
I never owned one so I'm not recommending it, more interested to know if you have considered it as it's on my list as my main combat ship of the future.

In regards to turreted weapons, definitely try then, I have 2 class 2 turreted beam lasers on a cobra and they rock.
Here is a short video from when I first got into combat with the turrets http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnGNUOAL0uE

I have since switched the turreted canons to gimballed multi-canons but the turreted beam lasers are staying.
Hope it helps Commander

FDL is a very viable option if you're not planning spending 110-150mil on your ship.

You can pretty much get an A-ced fited FDL for 80ish mil, where the Python needs a hefty sum of love (money, i mean money :) )

I've tried numerous ships over time (Sidewinder, Hauler, Cobra, Type-6, Type-7, Python, ASP, Diamondback Explorer and Scout) and I have to say my two favourite ships are the Python and the Diamondback Scout. The Diamondback Scout just because it's damned fun to fly, and I love the Python as it works as a trading vessel that kicks back. Really like it.

I will probably get an Anaconda at some point. I have to say, I don't really know why. Having watched the videos of it there is a bit of a 'just because I can then fly around and listen to' it factor to the best.

Is that wrong? :)

A 29M Cr Vulture destroys both Pythons and Anacondas. Ive been sitting in CZ for hours and only leave to cash in when I hit 1.0-1.5M Cr, then I return and so on. (just in case I do get killed) Ive not lost a Vulture to combat yet and Tiddles has beaten up both elite condas and pythons. The Vulture is the best combat ship Ive flown. (Never flown python or Conda). Clippers last minutes, couriers once their shields drop melt under the beams. Its only other Vultures (and a rather problematic Asp that gave me the runaround and dropped my shields before I eventually burnt it) that seem to trouble it. I suspect it will get nerfed coz I'm no ace fighter pilot. So I am biased towards the Vulture. An FDL looks pretty though and I may try one.

I'm guessing that the combat raking determines what ship v ship and combat rank v combat rank for its scoring. Hence why I am sticking to a Vulture. Unless of course the ship dont matter in which case Im on my way to buy a python cos they look evil.

Well gave the Python a go in combat zones and Res and I didn't really get on with it as a combat ship have to be honest, found it a bit too cumbersome, nice fire power and strength just not very much fun.
Thankfully I had kept my Vulture which is an absolute delight as a combat ship, slow as treacle but turns on a sixpence and packs a mean punch. So keeping the Python as a general mission flying ship.
Also sold my Clipper (sadface) and brought the Anaconda to trade with got it to a reasonable standard atm just needs some tweaking when I get some more cash put by.
