Do you ever take a break from Elite?

Postby StaticRadion » Tue Jun 30, 2015 8:30 am

Well Elite was starting to wear on me and I was getting the feeling that I had to do things rather than having the impulse of wanting to get them done. So I took a small break from the game and completed a run of Xcom on Classic difficulty to clear my mind.

What do you do to ease your space weary legs, regain your composure, and make the game feel new again? Do you play other games or take extra time IRL? Help a guy out and give me some ideas because I am back in the game, but not feeling it 100%.

Mostly whatever I feel like ;)

Although ED is the only game I feel like at the precise moment :)
Space games like this, is like my crack and it's been ages since I have had a good fix.

when I take breaks I leave to computer for my HT and watch a movie or something.

I took a one-to-two-month break from the game when I first got the Python iirc, when I thought that my gameplay would be purely focused on combat for the rest of my pilot's career.

At that time I just played a bunch of different games and started getting involved with family business, which made me appreciate the trading side of Elite. From thereon, I felt like trying it once more and ended up playing the game again - still counting. Also, during my hiatus, I had a marathon on the ME trilogy. That might have also fueled me into going back to ED, idk.

Other than that, I always ended up writing background info for my ship profiles in INARA whenever boredom kicked in. Kind of gave me a bit of an attachment to my ships as well. (Too bad they're not real!)

Absolutely, I already have done, I didn't play Elite at all in April. Now with a huge expansion of Terraria coming I want to see what's new there. After that there are still two huge RPG games waiting to be played: Pillars of Eternity and Divinity: Original Sin. Then the new DLC for Crusader Kings 2 is coming July 14th, that's a massive time sink as well.

Now that I've reached my goal of owning a fully upgraded Fer-de-Lance I think I'll reduce my flight time in Elite for a while to do other things.

Reading some brilliant fan fiction on this site has made me start my own story, so that will keep me from completely abandoning Elite for that reason alone (never mind I really do enjoy playing Elite).

I'm still not bored with E:D. There are several other games that I didn't finish yet, but I haven't played any of them since I got E:D, or almost.

I played it to death in December and January. With each new "fix" they spoil it a bit more, so I tend to wait for a bit, have a week in my vulture or clipper, then take another break until well after the next update.

Had to donate my GPU to my son a few weeks ago, so spent some time back on GTA San Andreas as it was one of the few games that would play on the mobo's built-in GPU. I'm able to play E:D again, now, but am revisiting Skyrim for a bit instead.

A day or two is all I take away from playing since I got the game in January. The only other game that sees this much workout for me is Spider Solitaire. I tend to chose games very carefully. I buy maybe 1 or 2 games a year. But I gets my moneys worth :)

Regardless of the frustrations I have with this game, I've been waiting for a game like this since I was a teenager... 2 decades later I have a lot of catching up to do :)

I've only been able to go a day or two before wanting to play again... though vacation coming up, going to be 10 days without... eep! (Joking aside, will be a nice break)

Well, I could clarify a little on my part.

I only got the game mid april, a little while after the steam launch.
And I did take a few days off after 1.3 hit giving FD time to release some much needed bug fixes :P
Now I'm so addicted it's not even funny..

I take breaks every now and again. :)

I took one to play through The Witcher 3 one and a half times, and I also take breaks every now and again to finish a book or two. Sometimes I read while sitting in the station, though...so I can trick people into thinking I'm playing, when I'm really finishing up another Eddings, Pratchett, or Adams. (I've been on a humorous/lighthearted kick, recently...)
