Elite: Dangerous Beta 2.03 connection problems

Postby Wolf » Thu Oct 02, 2014 10:44 pm

Who is still experiencing connection problems with patch 2.03?
I did a complete reinstall after removing everything, including all the game and user folders. (Of course I made a backup of my bindings before.) Now it is running like a charm.
If you still have problems getting in, you should try. The patch mechanism seems to still need some working on.

I'll try that tomorrow if it hasn't improved. Thanks for the tip, mate.

Here's the ticket I filed tonight:

I had almost never network problems in beta 1, but in beta 2 (including 2.03) I seem to have them all. I've seen the start menu displayed in red, I've got alerts saying that the server couldn't be accessed "check your connection and try again later" while the client loaded, I've got Lost connection to the server alerts while in space, I've got the same while loading the bulletin board, or after accepting a mission, I've got hangs exiting SC (the kind where the sound and the graphics still work as expected but that never end and forces you to ctrl+alt+delete), and I've probably forgotten others.

I have a pretty decent cable connection (100M down, 5M up) that usually runs between 50 and 80 Mbps down and 4.5 to 4.9 Mbps up, and I'm not connecting through wifi. And when I get these disconnections from ED, it's the only program with that problem. I can still stream web radios, for example.

Tonight those disconnections were so frequent that I finally gave up, completely frustrated. :(

its also worth forwarding a UDP port and making sure the client has public access through your firewall, i did this and have not had one disconnect since 2.01, that's without a reinstall.

Hey Andy
This sounds interesting. I have no idea what you are talking about, so If you're in the know in these matters, can I convince you to create a new topic in Hardware and Technical describing how it's done?

Is there an easy one two three step guide?
Can you link to good guidelines on the subject?

How to get better, more stable connections is paramount to most of us I think. :)

Cheers.:)

Yeah I would appreciate a breakdown explanation of this too if that's ok.
