Finally got a Vulture last night.

Searched about 20 systems and finally said screw it, made the trip to Anlave (Thanks KleinerFisch for the tip).

Managed to kit it out in Anlave to my liking and started the 150ly jump back to my home system.

Along the way, I ran into an Elite Sidewinder as I was scooping at a star. He came towards me, got within range so that I thought he was going to interdict me, but instead, he turned and ran. No Fun. But I was going to get a chance to Pew Pew in a few jumps anyways.

Got 2 jumps from my home system and was interdicted by an Eagle (Competent i think it said) and throttled back. The usual "Time to die" blah blah and I went FAO and faced him and got a scan. Wanted. Perfect. But I had never shot at another ship in the game, not including the training missions. Deployed hardpoints and started to track him. In my excitement of a my first battle, I accidentally switched weapon groups and couldn't figure out why i had no guns. Retract, Deploy, Retract, Deploy. Oh wait. Let me check the groups. Oh! Look Guns!. I lined him up and put 4 pips into weapons.

Squeezed the trigger and in what felt like a LONG time (actually about 10 seconds) he exploded! 16,000 Credit Bounty Awarded. NICE! First Kill. He hit me a few times, but shields didn't even drop a ring. I had just had my first battle in Elite. Discovered that the bounty was local, so I headed to a local station to collect.

I have to say, that it was a huge thing for me to fight another ship, even though it was like an elephant stepping on a mouse. I have been interdicted hundreds of times. But always ran. My T6 and my Hauler have no weapons. In fact, I only today put a chaff launcher on my T6. So this was a huge step for me.

Later today, I will look for a RES area and see what I can get into. Probably will be killed lol But I have my First kill.

Cant wait to see my Rating Change from Harmless.

Congrats! :)

I recommend doing the practice missions. It allows to build automatisms at no cost, because you don't lose anything when you're destroyed, and it can be lots of fun if you deviate from the original goal (for example trying to kill the ship you're supposed to hide from).

If you've got your Vulture well kitted you are fairly safe in many cases, but from experience of using a Vulture in RES...

Watch out for asteroids when boosting, it's always worth hitting a RES that's in sunlight so you can see what you are doing (the lights on the Vulture do not illuminate anything until you are right on top of it)

If you go after something big like an Anaconda, keep an eye on it's wing's status, whilst the Vulture can happily take these down, it can go horribly wrong very quickly when their buddies in Cobras join in

Watch your fire, the Vulture has big guns so there is no allowance if you hit a Security Viper, and given that there are usually a lot around, hit the wrong target and your radar will light up with hostiles

Watch what the security are doing, they seem to rush towards 'Wanted' ships, especially the big ones, so if you see them all heading in one direction it's worth going and checking it out

Keep an eye out for laser fire, you'll see this even if there is nothing on your radar, always a good sign that there are Wanted ships in that direction, but you often need to be fast to get there in time

Above all have fun and fly safe

Got rid of my shields and the ridiculous laser and got more cargo space. Which isn't helping much yet since I only have money to buy the cheapest stuff

Also noticed there are free rank decals available.

Scooping fuel is very much like making love to a beautiful woman. First check the target is hot enough,
then approach slowly. Once close enough, pull out your scoop and fill her up. After you're done just
gently pull away, turn around and leave.

decided that flying with a monumental hang-over was not a good idea today, now fully recovered, busy transporting much tonnage between systems :)

i found a new home with a nearby RES. then i noticed that the station was owned by the same pirate clan i'd been killing in the RES.

avoid contact with the other pilots, eyes to the ceiling, whistling innocently to myself as i make my way quickly to my ship and get the hell out of dodge...

One more note about the Vulture: it has a weak cockpit. I've had my cracked twice & blown out once. That never happened to me before. This is generally only a problem when going against a wing with no help.

In game, fwiw, I made Master sometime last night. Since bounties changed, my theory about 12 million credits being the trigger is now out the window. I'm not complaining, though.
It's time to give this another go.
