Now I really don't know whether I want a clipper... 2 huge, 2 med and 226 cargo space (and a shield)
or this thing with only 54 cargo space. (and a shield)

The clipper really is fun to fly but the damn hardpoint placement is too funky for my liking, so your best bet would be to try both ships OR just own both of the credit gods have been good to you. Im more excited to take that Vulture and just fly around ramming 2 Class 3 beam lasers up Anaconda exhaust pipes. Cute little thing.

Doesn't the clipper "only" have large hardpoints? And medium.
The huge one on the fdl should be a class 4. Perhaps I'm completely mistaken because I never used a single weapon on the clipper, just trading.
Vulture- wise, oh yes! 2 large lasers, if maintainable should be great

I tried the vulture last night. it is not maintainable with a B spec power distributor. Need to find a A. The FDL has 1 Class 4, correct. And yes, Clipper has only 4 hardpoints but they are very effective with the right setup as long as it is gimballed.

I love the look of the Fer-de-lance, didn't have time to have a go with it last night but the hardpoints make this a pretty heavy hitter. From what people are saying power management is tricky in the vulture particularly if you use beam weapons rather than kinetic or pulse.

Oh, sorry, you are correct. To tell you the truth, I didn't realize their WAS a huge, (I I was mentally interchanging the two, Large and Huge)

Probably because there are only 2 class 4 weapons currently available. A very big plasma accelerator, and a mondo cannon.

Still, I don't think I want to be at the receiving end of either.

Are you talking about the Fer-de-Lance? That didn't strike me.

What I don't like is its asymmetric canopy. I mean when seen from the pilot's seat. But from the outside, I think it looks great.

Someone on Reddit guesstimated the prices of the new ships, based on Military Bulkheads prices:

CMDR deepfield wrote:The pricing on the Vulture (estimated 20m) and FDL (estimated 90m) are a disappointment. We get yet more ships that are out of reach unless you are prepared to engage in the mind numbing trade grind.

edit: these estimates are based off of the current prices for military grade bulkheads for both ships. this price is closely related to hull price. see the following, helpfully pulled from edshipyard.com:

Ship / Hull cost / Military bulkheads cost
Asp 6.1m / 5.9m
Python 55m / 56m
Anaconda 141m / 132m
Clipper 21m / 20m
Cobra 235k / 341k
Dropship 36m / 34m
Viper 95k / 128k
Adder 39k / 79k
Type9 73m / 68m
Type7 16m / 15m
Type6 865k / 941k

Seems plausible and I don't want to calculate the price of a fully upgraded FDL ... just hoping that FD adjusts incomes other than trading to accumulate the neccessary credits :?

EDIT: Another Reddit, testing out the new ships ... http://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/2xzsfu/decided_to_test_out_all_the_new_ships_in_12_in/

Note the EDIT at the end of the op ...
Also Frontier has confirmed that the hull prices on the FDL are in correct so I'm guessing it will be much cheaper (no confirmation on vulture hull prices).

Traded in my Asp for a FDL and pimped it almost to the max - 92m for the Military bulkheads seemed a bit steep. With gimballed class 2 beams and multicannons supported by a modest plasma accelerator for the big stuff, it feels like a Cobra on steroids.
When setting hardpoints the computer claims there isn't enough power, but the beams overheat before draining the capacitor.

The seating is odd, with the second seat apparently set lower. The pilot's seat could do with being raised a little for a better view, so the passenger can't see much at all. When things are busy the offset viewpoint isn't noticeable, but does seem to intrude more in straight flight.
The jump range isn't great, but with an A4 fuel scoop very little time is wasted on long trips. 36t cargo leaves no space for an advanced scanner, but that was my choice: cargo can be dropped to 32t for explorers.
I spent a couple of hours in a RES and found the shields very good against Anacondas, Pythons Clippers and a Dropship, but on the one occasion when the shields were entirely offline they took a long time to recharge.
A lot of fun: I'll be sorry to see it go come the update.

What keeps getting me is the reflection off of the canopy tip....I keep thinking it's something.....And yes the view is odd..But as you say in the heat of battle you soon forget about it......

I'm running with 1 x class 3 beam and 2 x class 2 beams (Gimballed) and 2 x class 2 fragment cannons (Fixed)....That dispatches small ships rather quickly...I do have to pulse the beams on occasion to stop heat damage....

Only been taken down once....Bloody dropship ramming again...I was a bit imbibed with alcohol and didn't see it coming....With full shields and 78% hull it took me straight out.....Don't know if he survived...I would have hoped not seeing as he had no shields and 26% hull......

Also running with a KWS and advanced discovery scanner...Just about manages the power with a bit of module tweaking......In one system I did a scan and it was something like 50 undiscovered objects....That took a bit of time....Oh to anyone who does not know you do not get paid for asteroid clusters...

You deffo need a fuel scoop...Took one mission it cost me twice what I was paid in fuel....

And it was the first time I have ventured into a RES....Certainly have to have your wits about you there....Dem rocks are massive like.....Not bad paying wise though.....

All in all I'll be sad to see it go as well.....

Using the cargo scoop is difficult: there's a reflected highlight right on the target.

You soon get used to it. I don't think I've hit a rock in a couple of weeks or so. But it's very profitable
