Scale of our solar system

Postby Flip » Thu Feb 05, 2015 4:22 pm

Found this on the official forum and thought that was worth mentioning here, as it's pretty amazing. It's an animation showing, in realtime, the journey of a photon emitted from the sun and travelling across a part of the solar system. Really puts things into perspective!

Is it just me? I find that very depressing.

It really shows how insignificant we are, but personally I don't find this depressing.

Actually, I think that if was shown to every children in the world, Earth would probably become a better place. But maybe it's just me. :)

Both links bookmarked and will be forwarded. :)

Those are freaking awesome. I cheated & downloaded the video. At 45 minutes it is long, but I think it would take 6-7 hours to reach Pluto! I never knew there was an earthworm larger than a human. What kind of fish do you catch with those?
It's time to give this another go.

Let us remember the wise words of Frank from Men in Black...

"When are you humans going to learn? Just because something is important, doesn't mean that it isn't incredibly small..."

I totally agree with you. I've always thought that if humans were able to really apprehend the scale of the universe they would be wiser.
