Had issues with long jumps tonight in Group so when I hit a station, I jumped to Solo. Low and behold, Naval Ascension Mission. Now I am a Duke.

Also sold all my ships and I am back to wandering in a Cobra. I am taking time to visit systems and taking any job that pops up regardless of how little it pays. I have more than enough in the bank. Now its about seeing places, scanning systems, and taking the real "Freelancer" style to heart.

I am only turning down Kill missions as I am not equipped or comfortable to do them in my Cobra, or mining, since I have no clue how to mine with bins, hoppers, refineries and limpets and drones.

Hmmmmm.....

I wonder if I should try solo for naval progress.....

Nothing to lose I spose......

I have not seen a progression mission in Months....

And my progression bar in beta shows 0%.....For Fed.....And 29% for Empire....

Which is weird because I have done a shitload of Fed missions and Donated a few quid as well.....

ARGHHHH!

In my Leonine kill-frenzy at the Coastakal CNB I 'accidently' off'd a friendly, so with several wings around, including an Elite FAS/FAS/'conda one, I GTFO there & lo-tailed it back to RM. Guess it's back to BB missions from Az & Exioce for the next few days :(

On the brighter side, I'm 1/20th of the way to Deadly already so it shouldn't take more than about 3 months at this rate.

Interesting side effect of doing the Fehu runs is that I've gotten a Fed promotion, only to Chief Petty Officer but still running missions for the Empire is slowly increasing my Fed rank. And the only Fed ranking missions I did on my runs is 1 or 2 donation missions.
Think it has something to do with not only who you're delivering for but also who you are delivering to.

Also, has anyone ever looked down at your computer generated avatar's hands as you are manipulating your flight controls. After 8 months of play I finally did (usually when I look down I just see the hands flexing as I'm not doing anything to the controls,) and got a nice surprise. I use a HOTAS. :)

Yup, it's pretty damn cool! 8-) I use an X-52 Pro, which looks identical to the avatar's controls. I move- he moves-it's sweet!

I just need some long back gloves so that I match him.

Does handing in bounties or bonds to Fed/Empire stations also increase your rank? I heard it would be broken or not intended (last would be strange if rank increases when hauling stuff).
I am really looking forward to see which rank that sweet Corvette requires ... probably an absurdly high one ...

Best thing to do is to find a system/station where most if not all factions are aligned with the Feds (or the Empire). So all the missions you’ll take will count for your progression. Sol is good for Fed progression for that very reason.

Next, only take missions whose effect on your reputation is high. You can see that in the mission screen. Charity missions and most combat and assassination missions are in that category. Missions whose effect is medium or low aren’t worth it.

Avoid missions that would get you wanted, though, like civilians, traders, smugglers, nomads, and assassinations of anything other than pirate lords (conda), terrorists (python), escaped prisoners (Viper), deserter (Eagle) and those that don’t explicitly say that the target is wanted.

Then stack missions up until you have a fair number (20 or 30). Switch between open, private groups and solo while you’re stacking them up. It sometimes causes good missions to spawn several times. But not always. And BTW, the mode in which you run the missions makes no difference.

And remember that the higher your rank, the more missions you’ll have to run to unlock the naval opportunity missions. And finally, when the naval missions appear, don’t jump on the first one that pops up. Wait until one that won’t get you wanted (or killed) appears. Once they’ve started spawning, they’ll continue until you ranked up. And some are really easy. So give them time to come up.

Good luck, mate!

It gets better, position you ship so that the light source is creating a shadow of your pilots hands in the cockpit, then move your HOTAS, the shadows move to match it
