Yeah, mass lock affects low energy FSD jumps- meaning in system ones (going back to supercruise). Hi energy FSD jumps (to other systems) aren't affected by mass lock.
Another tip - if an NPC comes after you do what Xebeth said, if it isn't working (and it does in 99.9% of the cases) and you find yourself losing shields - hit silent running - he will lose you as a target and you will buy yourself some time for FSD to charge. Be careful of overheating though- once you FSD is almost charge switch silent running off.

For me, it's definitely the pirates that cargo scan my armoured vulture with no cargo bay and ask "how do you make a living?". Just wish there was a way to reply "Here, let my lasers explain."
