The real problem is that once a person is publicly accused of something, it is out there and you cannot take it back. Even with the biggest "correction announcement" you will not reach the same audience that read the first accusations.

So if we allow name and shame, we open a whole new box there.

Also, and in the case of online game trolls even more importantly, naming and shaming would be the one thing the trolls want. They want recognition no matter what. Meaning if they are named in any context, even the most negative ones, they are happy.
(Just listen to the Lave Radio interview with [redacted :D ] and me again, you will understand the true motive for their actions: Attention, no matter how.)

They are, before all, attention whores. So attention is the one thing we will not give them. ;)

Very well said and so true.

Who cares? They get kicked, end of story.
Still waiting for easier way to kick-ban, though. But FD will deliver eventually.

to give you an idea how much they crave attention at least 10 of them have tried to join our facebook group in the last few days, just so if anyone mentioned an attack while playing in the group they could screen shot it and share it about. at first we thought it was about their cmdr's who are opposing the order in open but as soon as this kicked off we realised it wasn't

I say attempted as thanks to them being a bit stupid and all being members of the same facebook group we managed to keep most of them out, one or two may have slipped through but we will find out who they are soon enough.

Mobius is working as quickly as possible to remove the offenders from our groups. In the mean time, it's recommended to participate in the CG either in solo or a private group other than the two Mobius groups.

I understand Mobius and admins are working hard. I also understand the whole thing about not giving them prominence or shaming people incorrectly. On the other hand, if you conceal their names, will you then guarantee to reimburse anyone who is killed by them? (I've not been, so it's not personal at this time.)

It's all very well hiding the accused's identity, but the victim has their name splayed across the internet. Is this fair?

Really? You actually think that 1) there is a mechanic that would allow for this and 2) that it is that big of a deal to lose a ship/cargo that is out of control of The group admins?

That is one of the most idiotic things I have heard in all these arguments, and that includes the thread on whether Mobius group is biased.

If you feel that the danger is so great, and you can't afford the loss (either monetarily or psychologically) then may I suggest Solo till you feel Safe?

You know they are in a Particular area, and you know that they will be dealt with in due time. Either avoid the area, or avoid the playing group/open. Use some intelligence and forget this idea that you are entitled to something when you clearly are not.

I am usually pretty easy going, but this is bloody stupid.

I'll share two reasons why we don't want to name the griefers.

1) if someone is named and they actually weren't the griefer, their reputation in the group could be tarnished for a very long time.

2) Griefers want, need, desire, and MUST HAVE public acknowledgement that they are doing the victim harm. They thrive on it, crave it, and live for it. If you post their name(s), he/they are getting EXACTLY what they want. We don't want them to get any recognition for their acts within Mobius. Don't feed the trolls.

If anyone is attacked, submit a PM to the admins here with the details. Include what group you were in, name of attacker, as well as links to screenshots and/or video if possible.

Do NOT post the attacker's name on the message board. See #1 and #2 above.

No private group can or will reimburse anyone for any ship loss (I have never hear of one, anyway). There is no guarantee of a safe environment in any game, ever. Especially when other humans are involved.
