Going back to Windows 7

Postby Loriath » Sun Aug 23, 2015 7:55 am

I am having too many issues with Windows 10 and have decided to go back to Windows 7.

It stems not from the game, but driver issues. I can't use my scanner, my cameras have issues, and some of my other programs are just not ready yet.

So I am backing up my data and going to reinstall from my Image I made just prior to installing.

That stinks Loriath. I would do the same thing if I couldn't get all of my hardware working. :(

Maybe in 6-12 months they'll have the drivers and updates available and you can upgrade then.

Sorry to hear that some guys are having problems, I'm just lucky I guess I have had zero problems with windows 10, actually I find it's a lot faster than 8.1. But this is the thing with new operating systems, should settle down in a bit. Take care.

Huh... sorry to hear it but it is strange. I've upgraded (not even a clean install) my laptop and my main rig. So did all my co-workers and a bunch of my friends. No one had any issues apart from the start-menu search randomly stopped working and all you had to do is kill the search process and reset it once.

Maybe it's one of the manufacturer's drivers that's not compatible yet or something...

That is the issue. I need access to my printer scanner (it's networked) and I am unable to connect and gain access to my custom firmware on my camera that I need to have. There are also other minor niggles, but for me those are show stoppers.

If I can't invoice my customers, I don't get paid. :)

It may not help in your particular circumstance, but I had a similar problem going from XP to Win7 and the solution was to use Windows Virtual PC whenever I needed to use any legacy kit.

I used to do that, but I found doing VM's were just as much of a pain as dealing with another PC.

As a side note? All the stuttering issues I had in game in SC since the last update are all gone on WIndows 7. Go Figure.

^ This. I've upgraded two computers (Intel and AMD - AMD is my main gaming rig) and the only issue I've had was OEM driver related. The problem isn't Microsoft's but rather OEM's who decided not to prepare for the Windows 10 launch even though they knew about it well in advance. Trust me, Creative Labs is on my sh** list now- I didn't pay upwards of $200 for them to sit around on their butts and just keep releasing new novelty hardware in the hopes people will just forget about their original investments and keep upgrading.

MS just writes the OS- they provide "reference" drivers that have been tested thoroughly in-house (if the OEM provides a reference) but other than that most issues you can trace back to the manufacturer of the said hardware.

I'm curious, what do you use to create your images?
