How close did you get? If you stay away, they don't look like much, but I dropped out of SC and went right into it (literally). That's when it starts to be interesting.

Also, the black hole itself doesn't look like anything. It's the way it distorts the sky around and behind it that makes it look that way. So a black hole in a very dark region won't look like that.

Yup I know. They look like doughnuts on screenshots that really don't do them justice. A black hole would actually just be pure black, but, like you said, it distorts space around it so you actually see stuff that infront/behind you.

In real life, you'd probably just get torn apart

I got close to every black hole I visited. Somewhere up to 10-20km. Dropped to normal speed ofc. I'm in the middle of creating a video of my Sag A* trip. Should be up over the weekend

Well it's not that you can't select a 600ly path in the core - it's just it will probably melt your PC
