Many thanks for the advice. Looks like the Asp Explorer is the one for me. I'm currently making my way toward Sag A from Sol. I'll keep an eye out for shipyards during my journey to purchase one from.

KK,

So I went for the layout as suggested by TorTorden, but had to make a few adjustments as some of the reocmmended class of item were not availbale.

This is what I currently have:

    Multi-Cannon x2 2F 2F

Then I also have:

    Fuel Tank 32 5C

    Cargo Rack 32 5E

    Detailed Surface Scanner 1C

    Advanced Discovery Scanner 1C

    Standard Docking Computer E1


So, the proplem I am having:

1) My power consumption is at 124%, though nothing seems to be offline

2) I cannot jump even to the nearest system due to mass

Help! What can I do to increase my jump capability from zero to something decent.

If this is an explorer:

I'd go with 5D power plant and 4D thrusters for more range.
Those two changes will probably give you all the power you need.

Also, 4D distributor for a bit more range.

Drop the chaff, shield boosters, & kws for more range.

Drop the beams. I'd go with 2x medium gimballed pulse lasers.
You can defend yourself against smaller ships and run from larger ships.
Drop the multi cannons for more range (or maybe keep some just in case).

No need for a docking computer out is space. Add an AFMU for repairs.

But REAL MEN use docking computers!!! :lol:

Actually, it looks like 4A is a better choice for a power plant - less weight.

With this build, you can also keep 4x small multi cannons, if you don't mind the weight.


PS. I'd learn to play with coriolis.io and post your builds rather than making a list.
It's very easy and intuitive, and better than ED Shipyard, imho.
It's time to give this another go.

I've changed to:

Power Plant 3A
FSD 3E (5A not available)

I don't understand why I can't plot a route to even the nearest star. I'm stuck in my current system.

If you are going to sag a you don't multipurpose at all.

You don't need guns.
Maybe a tiny shield, a buggy and a couple afmu's and biggest scoop you can afford.
D rate anything but fsd and power plant.

Downgrade the power plant and distributor most Explorer builds I run can work with less power than what comes out of a 3a powerplant.

For example you don't need to run the field maintenance units and thrusters at the same time.

That's because you downgraded the fsd DO NOT EVER DOWNGRADE FSD CLASS.
