Really I think it is a prompt to start bringing meta-alloys to those systems. A very subtle community goal. Meta-alloys have been sold at Obsidian Orbital and it has stopped the affect of the virus. Go farm barnacles!!

It's an excellent way for the Thargoids to get their tech in our stations and take over, without lifting a finger, or antennae, or whatever.

First we find UA's, and herp derp, we take them to our stations. Some kind of alien tech affecting our stuff in a bad way. Then, like magic, we find barnacles that spurt meta-alloys which we apply to our stations to 'cure' the UA problem.

It's pretty obvious. Introduce a problem that is solved by something they want on our stations, which makes it easier for them when they attack.

We are taking over our stations for them. I dunno why no one sees it.

if Maia is any indication, does that also mean that barnacles will be found in systems adjacent to the affected ones? i.e. very local, not just on the edge of the bubble
