Listen to the rocks? What sort of hippie crap is that?

The wave scanner emits different sounds for different minerals...

Scanning :

CMDR J'Zargo... "From my observations I think that the different patterns (horizontal lines) show the type of the source and no so much the composition of it. Also the scanner sounds also seems to be indicating the source type and not the composition. I have now done over 30 samples with 100% consistent results so far. Here is what I have found so far:"

I like the idea of the boost, but gathering the ingredients seems to be a pain in the tail.

I quite enjoy doing the gathering. Nice and relaxing driving around shouting some rocks and scooping up. I do wish there was a way to identify where you are likely to find a specific type of material as some are obviously rarer than others. Not providing a 'find it here' type POI but on the surface map areas where you are just more likely to find the material. It would remove some of the RNG-ness for the encounters.

Again, I think the type of planet influences the elements found there.. high metal content = high metal content.. Example: Diaguandri - B1 - Very high metal content, has plenty of Vanadium... (FSD stuff.. ;)) look for 'out croppings' :)

err, am I beginning to sound a bit g33ky..?

Ahem... back to the Monkey :P

I just used wikipedia.
And as vanadium is a metal, it's often found on metalic's.
Germainium is an offshoot or something mostly found with silicates so if you want to look for that, you should check a rocky planet.
However, It seems I have found both, infact I think I have found everything for a lvl 2 (50% boost) on the ice moon just outside the station in diaguandri..

Where you look also seem to matter, easiest way to find good stuff, is in my experience to land on the small hill\mountain inside a crater, then sweeping the hillsides down to the crater, looking for that low thin line and listening for the metallic scratchy noise.¨

It also seems that with beta 4 and 5, things have become a lot more common, used to be I couldn't find germanium for the life of me until I hit up a rocky planet, now it's like ice planets are throwing vanadium and germanium at me.

Rule 1: Pillage. Then burn.
Rule 2: No such thing as overkill, as long as there are reloads.

A lot of nice info ^,^, and Kharma I am interested.. I don't remember hearing anything from the wave scanner.. as I was watching it I was wishing it pinged as I was suddenly realizing it reminded me of the motion scanners from Aliens ^,^.

I do admit how fast I went from not understanding how the wave scanner worked to being able to read it well enough to track things
