It's really sad how Microsoft purposely cripples the same product into two (2) versions ... and yet a 3rd.

The 'Home' version originally started out as a way for Microsoft to keep home consumers from corrupting their NTFS C: drives in NT5.1+ (XP and later) by accidentally enabling Access Control Entries (ACEs -- long story). Now they make it a 'loss leader' so they can sell it for US$25/unit to PC OEMs, and get another US$100+ out of people who want to enable features that are already built into the product.

And now we have 'S' which is the US$5/unit PC OEM version that allows only the Microsoft App store software to be installed. It's not for 'security.' It's for control.

Just remember ...

Unless you buy a full 'retail' license of Windows 8/10 Pro, which can be moved to a new mainboard/PC, the 'upgrade' license 'stays' with the original, mainboard firmware the Windows OEM version was installed on. It's encoded into the uEFI firmware and non-transferrable.

Microsoft even requires a new OEM license for 'PC refurbishment'. Dell, HP and Lenovo 'get away with' this when they resell off-lease equipment, since they themselves 'own' the "per-model OEM licensing" agreement with Microsoft, but 3rd parties like Arrow Direct usually purchase a "refurbished OEM license" from Microsoft.
