Right now I'm in a Viper Mk III, trying to get a Vulture. I upgraded my FSD to be able to get as far as 9.6 LY, but still get "Route Plotting Failed" when I try to make plans for travel.

Build yourself something like this hauler taxi (won't take long to earn the money if you don't already have it).
You can either fit an extra fuel tank or fuel scoop in one of the optionals.
Most of the missions are data missions so you won't need any cargo space or weapons as you can run away from interdictions. There are some small cargo missions so you can fill up the remaining slots with racks for those.

I've just been taking First-class passenger missions from the Sol system.

Mostly because the pay is good (between 500k and 1mil for transport missions, generally between 1mil and 5mil for sightseeing missions...) But also every minor faction is Fed aligned, so while not meaning to I've gotten a rank and a half or so.

Mostly I picked Sol because I'm allied with every faction, so they give me great mission contracts xD

Being able to carry 42 first-class passengers doesn't hurt, though...maybe one day I'll fly a Beluga for a few seconds (and then decide it's expensive and an easy target for pirates...)

I have an A rated Beluga, but find I prefer my Anaconda for passenger missions, it could have something to do with it's engineered 40 ly FSD.

Thanks for this - currently a rankup to chief petty officer and half way through that for 1hr of running data and cargo - I love the mission bonus for "get my data there in 3 mins for a bonus of X cr" when I'm a 600ls away from the outpost and I've got a direct message telling me I'm about to be interdicted for the second time by a pesky viper!

Well now that you've got a taste, here's a secret I've been siting on. It will be patched in the next major update, so be aware.

Fly to Baird Station in Unktock and leave your ship there. Buy a viper or something and load it with dumbfire missiles. I put all D-class modules on it to keep the weight down and extend the range so I can make it to the next systems in 1 jump.

Take your missile launcher with engines to Arnemil and land at Buffett Beacon. It's a landfall port, so you'll need Horizons, but I think that's expected. There are lots of fed factions here giving out skimmer missions. Take the ones against Brule Prospect and Onnes Landing. Relog to get more until you have 20. They have no defenses. However, Onnes Landing is owned by the controlling faction of the target system, so after a few runs you'll be considered hostile.

These two outposts are little more than camp sites in the Warnates system. Fly there, blow up the skimmers with the missiles, land and relog to generate more skimmers. Then orbital cruise to the next tent and do it again.

Your best option at this point is to just blow yourself up when done. This will put your bounties on dormant and get you back to Buffett Beacon to turn them in. On my viper, it only cost a 50k rebuy, but I was able to earn up to 55m per run.

You'll make more money than you know what to do with. And since these are fed factions, you'll get rank along with them to.

Yup! Headed out here after your previous post. The skimmer kill missions are still very plentiful. I've been doing them casually whenever I have playtime. Racked up 50 million so far. Got another 20 stacked for tonight when I get home from work. I'm almost allied with with three of the factions. Gotta stop though and take that Fed Rank-up mission.

Excuse the idiot question, I take it blowing yourself up you don't loose your missions, only whatever kill bounties you've amassed?

Correct, and exploration data. Those stay with the pilot, not with the ship. So blowing yourself up forfeits all that.

4 viper mkiv's later and 20 mil cr... Just started hitting the big payouts for missions now some giving 2 mil for 9 sentries... Good hours worth of work that! Appreciated

You'll start seeing missions for 5-6m for 12 skimmers. I was averaging 100m per hour. Made a billion in a few days.

Just raised from friendly so missions have gone from 120k to nearly 2 mil and that's with 4 runs... All of an hour... I'm not seeing the same rank gain in fed as I was doing the data missions, but swings and roundabouts I wasn't earning 20 mil an hour running the data either - just bought a Python before I started these missions I'll be flying a corvette before I get the Python off the launch pad lol - loving it!!
