I think I will wait for the Barnacles fix. Buying them in the market kinda takes away the fun. Was looking forward to the barnacles hunt.

yah, well i knew where some where from the community goal to gather them for Ishmael Palin a few months ago and went back there last night having noted co-ordinates and planets of some known ones. I don't have the notes to hand, but there's a post on the other forums that give information about worlds that are aparently capable of supporting barnacles if you're not after trying existing sites

Ah, a litle searching and a click or two gives me this link to the forum topic on barnacles and UAs From which we can gather the following at least...

• Barnacles are found on planets in or clsoe to nebulae
• on low gravity worlds
• surface temperature between 194K and 379K
• in discoloured portions of the planetary surface ( possibly mineral deposites)

These discoveries were made by other commanders before i started looking for them myself.

post from Michael Brooks here suggesting that as a stop gap measure they'll be making a market available with meta-alloys in the Maia system, Darnels Progress space port. This is on the planet that Obsidian Orbital orbits, i think it's Miai 3 1, but i'm not sure.

bets on which comes first, heads: the market will be seeded, or tails: the barnacles bug will be fixed? i'm hoping for both myself, so edge?

Considering that unholy amounts of meta alloys have been put into the market at Obsidian Orbital, it seems only natural that we'd be able to get them at a market somewhere. I don't even care if they're expensive.

i just got home from work and caught up on forums, it appears that the stop gap measure mentioned by MB earlier, that of seeding meta-alloys on Darnelle's Progress, Maia system, has now occoured so if you want alloys but don't want to wait till barnacles are fixed then there's that option

as i got top 15% on the community drive for meta-materials a few months ago i think i might just buy one today when i get a chance to drop in game, and come back and mine a load of meta-alloys the "hard" way when barnacles are fixed.

As an asside, aparently destroying unknown artifacts, that can be found in space between 140 and 160 ly from Merope will drop a new crafting material as well, so i might see if i can get a few of those before i head back to the bubble

It's not a bug - barnacles can have an empty state now.

It depends on their harvested state, if they've been harvested then no meta-alloys are available, they will regrow over time. Scumming won't work with the empty ones either.

If they're shooting a large spike which has the large pod attached then it should drop meta-alloys.

As already mentioned this is confirmed as a bug. As a stop gap measure we'll open a market at Darnielle's Progress in the Maia system so you can buy meta-alloys from their surplus for a while.

Still cant get used to the word 'Scumming'. Hopefully the relog persistance will apply to other areas of the game as well.

And I can confirm that after you give a meta-Alloy to an engineer to craft mods it will take salvaging wrecks from signals, finding minerals and such on planets, mining, etc.

The Farseer engineer requires Meta-Alloys for us to be able to talk to them.

It seems that the barnacle sites dosen't spawn them atm.

Some people thinks its a bug, I think that we have to look somewhere else.

I think I will look for them in nearby wrecks, nearby systems, space wrecks. There is also reports that some barnacles is protected by turrets ect, but they don't drop meta-alloys, just normal materials (maybe there is a random chance that they do).

Have any of you seen them?
