But I'm still hesitating to start my own "way of the explorer". I still like to pilot different ships and do different things depending of my mood. I don't know if I will succed in this new career but maybe I will try at least once. See you in the void.
Having been out for a bit now (albeit only a short time compared to many), I've come to realise that exploration is a mindset thing, because it lacks the instant gratification of credit accumulation that comes with trading, or the pew pew boom bounty of combat, you have to settle into the long game way of thinking. Yes there are interesting things to see (you only have to look at the Distant Worlds stuff to realise that), and watching the lys tick past is a sort of progress, but you have to get your head round the fact that your pay day could be days, weeks, or even months away.
Oh, and it's mainly monotonously dull, the occasional undiscovered earth-like or interesting planet is great, but it's mainly boring bland balls of cold lifeless rock and ice.
