Bad man walking

Postby Hicky » Wed Mar 02, 2016 8:21 am

Bless me Father I have sinned. I have a tale of guilt.

The way I play Elite is to set myself a set of goals to achieve. I don’t partake in CG’s or PP, because it takes me away from my plan and with the limited game time I have I cannot make myself too busy or I will get nothing done.

Been playing since Premium Beta, I’m not rich about 30 million and I have a Cobra Mk III, Vulture and Cobra Mk IV to my name. The goal that I have been working to since the game went live is to reach the rank of Admiral. I’m a Fed player and will only gain rank for one faction and no one else.

So my routine all this time, has been to be based in two systems Sol and Tun and do Charity, Trading, Courier and certain Combat missions. Since being in a Mk IV I’ve stayed away from combat. So I would spend time in one system, get bored of that system, move on and repeat. I’ve been doing this religiously and quite happy to do so. Then last night it happened…

I had got to Vice Admiral 83% from doing the above and feeling quite chuffed that I had a little way to go to reach my goal. I took a break yesterday evening and parked up at Tun while I watched Robot Wars. Then an idea sprung into my head that I had read about elsewhere Mission Stacking! How easy could it be I ask myself. So I started between Solo, Private and Open. One go I thought, just to see what it was all about. One go and I would stop… It was like a drug, all these missions kept popping up. Now I’m an Admiral and I feel shame for cutting the corner on the last lap.

Can I be saved or is it too late for me? Have I turned to the dark side and sacrificed the noble space warrior in me? Or can I justify the means to an end?

I turn to you my fellow Mobius pilots. Am I a bad man, for doing what I have done? Rosary beads at the ready…..

I do the same for empire rank grinding.

If I would actually play non-charity missions I probably wouldn't be at squire yet. Problem is that rep grinding is so extremely slow that it will probably take the next 2 years for me to get a cutter(I'm at cubeo atm)

Another Problem is that my Pc seems to be to much of a toaster to handle planets they way it actually could so I can't play those "destroy base x on planet y for tons of reputation" missions which massively slows down my rank up progress too :/

That last push to get that last 17% for something you've obviously have worked hard for is understandable. Congratulations, it's well deserved, Admiral. Now onto obtaining the funds to purchase the Federal Corvette :D

Some things in the game are 'fun' some things are just 'grind', it's of course down to your personal perspective which is which. I play the game for 'fun'. So cutting corners on things that are a grind standing in the way of something 'fun' is not really something I beat myself up over, and in my opinion nor should you. :)

Oh i totally agree with the above about fun... If the rep was a side-product from your normal activities then it would be fine. Unfortunately it's just one of many bars players need to fill up over and over again to obtain gated content.

If i was just missions (the regular way) - i'm sure it would take me years to grind up the ranks. Luckaly - good people of Mobius showed me the "nuke the moon station" way and it's been very fast and fun. I need 1 more rank to bask in the Cutter glory, and with this tempo - it should be done in the next few days.

Don't beat yourself over such a thing. Just keep playing the way YOU find fun.

That's my next goal. :D

I have just sold my Cobra Mk IV and got myself a T7. I was going to aim for an FDL, but I might as well reach for the top. :)

I honestly think you would be better off in a python (more cargo, can land at outposts, and defend itself) the t7 has slightly better jump range. (ok it costs three times as much but....)

Or you could sign up with space Trump and whore resource sites in a vulture.

I don't get the connection here. :o How is a T7 and a FDL related?

As far as being a bad man or woman for that matter. To me its not the destination, its the journey. I almost always stop playing a game once I've reached the pinnacle of success however way its measured in X game.

Been playing Hard Core since December 2015:
I am 100% allied with the Empire, the Federation and the Alliance
My Federation Navy Rank is Ensign
My Empire Navy Rank is Viscount
Combat Rank is Dangerous
Trade Rank is Broker
Explorer Rank is Pathfinder
I own two ships: an Asp Explorer and a Federal Assault Ship
As of last night, just before the power failure I have 210 million credits
My galaxy wide bounty is 2.1 million
My Galaxy wide fines are 5.2 million LOL I never pay fines and the cops can site me all they want.

Oh and I am Rank 5 with Lavigny Duval, so all is well in my corner of the galaxy. Now if I can just get some sleep I'll be fine.

( I suffer from severe sleep apnia and can only sleep using a C-Pap machine which helps me breath. When the power went out last night I was forced to lay in bed unable to breath or sleep. I took 2 percacet pills in the hopes they would knock me out but that was a total fail. I am now up and I feel like a zombie with no energy, still a little nauseous from the pills and I will more than likely pass out like someone turned me off in short order )
