PvP in Mobius

Postby bootsam » Wed Jan 20, 2016 1:37 pm

Its come to my attention that some CMDR's have entered Mobius in order to PvP players outside the bounds of what is acceptable. ie griefing them, for want of a better description. The ED forum has a no name and shame rule which is fair enough. Do we? If not may I suggest we keep a public roster of these people. As I'd dearly like to be aware of whom it is so that I might avoid them.

I am sure an admin will add to this shortly but the group policy and how it is policed is stated on the above top line.

We also do not name and shame in public. Report the names to the admins of this board (you can select the admin group on your PM page)

Also some sort of proof is needed, meaning screenshot or video. If no violation of the rules has been commited yet, we need proof that it is clearly their intention to break the rules.

The problem with public naming is obvious: If somebody had a personal gripe, he could just publicly name that commander as offender and people would shun this player, wether the accusations are correct or not. So the accused would be marked, even if innocent. And it is very hard to get rid of that mark, even if innocent, as many people seeing the original accusation will not see the proof that it was wrong.

To get back to the point: After they were reported and proof was confirmed, they will be removed. So there is also no need to know their names, as you do not need to avoid them in group.

Sound good? :)

Thats fine Wolfy. :) I understand and agree with the rule. But if someone is found guilty by the admin due to the weight of evidence and expelled from the group then it is not unreasonable to name them. However I abide by the rules of the forum and Mobius. :)

evidence is always needed, as If I ban a player and that player gets back to me denying everything then I have no proof to show them.
I also cant accept messages like" I was interdicted by a player and I think his name was bob or it may have been boob or boy"
I need an exact cmdr name because if I do remove a player without proof and they get back to me then chances are they will be accepted back into the group.

evidence can come in many forms like, screenshot, video, a forum post showing intent or proof that they are members of a known pvp group( within reason)

I normally remove the accused player ASAP but without evidence they are free to rejoin the group.

I normally get a message once a month about unwanted pvp and 9/10 it was a player being interdicted or destroyed by an npc.

Ah, I see. Its now apparent to me the amount of administration that you, Mobius, has to upkeep in order to keep this wonderful group pve going. Thanks for that. How do you find the time to play?

A screenshot or a video would be a minimum amount of required evidence before any action could be considered, let alone actioned. I'm surprised people mistake an npc for a CMDR. But with 18,000 CMDR's, one is bound to have a doh! moment. :)

I agree and evidence is best. I made a big mistake when I first joined up by not reading the rules thoroughly and I couldn't apologise enough and maybe someone is like me and not fully aware oi the rules?

Always best to know for sure.

There are no acceptable bounds where deliberate PvP is tolerated. The only place PvP is allowed at all is in a CZ, and even there, a player is breaking the rules if their behaviour suggests an intent to PvP (such as switching sides via logoff to make all those little green hollows turn red).

My concern were people from certain groups, infiltrating to enact some kind of revenge against certain members who may vocally oppose those on the FD forum. Not me, I couldnt care less if a group targeted me, which they havent. But others, as I see this as a form of bullying. If anything in this world can get my mild mannered and affable natured dander up, its bullying.

Bullies tried it on with me at school and got very short thrift. Usually in the form of a punch in the mouth. Which mostly ended up with me getting a kicking. I will always fight back and as they found out, usually with unguided ferocity. But they did to some of my friends and they couldnt fight back and the suffering they experienced remains with me despite me helping where I could. Its appalling what some will do to others and I will always endeavour to confront it where I can.

One of my school friends suicided. He was gay. In 1981. A hugely talented artist and a gentle soul. I liked him coz he could draw spitfires like no-one else and showed me how. His sexuality was irrelevant to me. But I know how badly this guy bullied him and how terrified he was of going to school as we walked in together each morning. It was proper fear. I will just not tolerate it at any level.

I always side with the underdog. Its just my nature. :)
