Been playing since about mid June of last year (wow how time has flown) or maybe a little later in the year. I don't recall if I started playing immediately or if I set it aside after purchasing it. I was into another game for a long while last year. Anyhow, I started the ED last year some time and bought Horizons when it was up for pre-order so I must have started around October or November actually... but I digress.
As I have read in a few of the other commander's introductions I too used to play exclusively in open play thinking why close myself off from others in such a fun game, it's great to meet new people right? Well for the first couple of months it was fine and dandy, met people and made a few friends but as the game became more popular (I think around the time of Horizons) I began noticing a trend, aggressive players. While my experience with aggressive players is by no means extensive (I was often in less traveled systems charting the astronomical objects) I found that every time I'd see another player on my scanner I'd immediately start scrolling through my Navigation screen choosing a system to quickly jump to.
I can count the number of times I've been interdicted on one hand (5 times) as well as the number of times I've been killed by other players (2 times). Only two of my encounters ever had any sort of dialogue, not that it would have made any of the other times more enjoyable, all of the other times I encountered aggressive players it was just an interdiction and pew pew pew. Dialogue would not have likely made the incidents any better but it would have been somewhat less traumatic if they would have said something.
As I do not wish to play the game trying to avoid people I just retreated to a small private group I had previously joined and now play there until I can be invited officially into Mobius. I'm looking forward to playing with 19,000+ other commanders who have the same mindset as I do.
