Microsoft starts Pushing Windows 10 In Windows Update

Postby Loriath » Wed Feb 03, 2016 7:26 am

Most people have Windows update setup to automatically install updates, and that usually includes Recommended updates. Now Microsoft is pushing the Windows 10 update as a Recommended update.

What this means is that your system may automatically update your machine to Windows 10 even if you don't want it.

The easiest way to block this is to run Windows Update and click Change Settings. From there, look for the Recommended Updates Section and make sure it is Unchecked. It means that you will have to occasionally check windows update for recommended updates that are NOT Windows 10 and install them.

See this article for More Information on blocking the Windows 10 Update.

Bloody hell! That's not on. You need to set aside a serious wedge of time to do the upgrade. Sneaking it in is really wrong.

What they should have done was to push an update to Windows Update so that it was there as an option but had to be consciously chosen in all cases.

I'm a satisfied Windows 10 user bit I will never approve of such tactics. It's an individuals right to refuse to upgrade as long as they understand that the company may end support for the older software. Plus, some hardware just can't be upgraded due to lack of compatible drivers.

Umm, I know at least two such cases where the upgrade was done successfully...

What I don't get is the main reason gamers seem to use Windows is because DX is really the most supported/comprehensive API for graphics. If only OpenGL could get more serious backing to bring it up to par, then systems like Linux or SteamOS would start to really whittle down certainly the gamer OS choice from Windows. Even more so if it would be made API compatible to ease the transition for programmers (assuming no lawsuits would happen). To be honest it is the only thing stopping me from going over to Linux full time. Pretty much everything else I use has a Linux port or has an equivalent in the Linux world, but I can't be bothered to have to dual boot for games or productivity.

They (and not me as I had original windows 8 at the time) have no problems so far. At least that they tell me.
