I decided to try some of planetary assault missions at Cubeo. I used the video in this week's newsletter as a guide, and it was VERY helpful. I didn't want to build a new ship for it, so I retro fitted my Asp. I failed at my first attempt. Ship destroyed, unclaimed bounties lost, you know the drill. :o :(

I didn't have the loadout quite right, and I fully under estimated the attack power of the Goliath. Good God that thing is tough! On my second run, (and having several BB missions still active from the first attempt, and cycling the BB several more times ), I was successful at completing all of my missions. :D I had to back away from the defense turrets a few times when my shields got clobbered, but that just added to the fun. I have to say.... attacking a surface station today was the most fun I've had in E-D in quite a while! It's new (to me) and pretty darn exciting without the tension and stress of the shadow delivery interdictions and scans. After the two runs and paying $1.3 for the Asp rebuy, I profited $4.6 m. But honestly.... the fun factor was worth much more. 8-) :D 8-) I'm not doing it for the Empire rank (I wear a crown) so it doesn't feel at all like a grind.

Your scanner may not be active. There is a bug in the game where you have to have 'firing deploys hardpoints' turned on, or the scanner won't work. Also, be sure to have the comms array selected (like selecting a target), go into turret mode, and fire your scanner at it.

Well, I tried playing other games besides Elite.. but I dunno.. I just keep coming back to it. I got my first interdiction, and subsequent interdiction kill, using my Type 9 Pirate Hunter. I was chuffed to bits. Should I take a break from Elite? Maybe. Will I take a break from Elite? Not likely. I had an idea to try smuggling with my Corvette, since it's so much smaller that it can get through a mail slot with ease.

I think I might take the "Black Death Privateer 9" back out for a Nav Beacon expedition. Had an NPC scan me and DM with the message "I wonder what you're hauling", only to have my 180º on him, set reverse thrust, and unload with beams, cannons, and a missile barrage. This trader is loaded for bear. Funnily enough, my Type 9 is more combat outfitted than my Corvette at the moment..

*Edit* 5 ranks, and 40% left 'til Elite in Combat. (If ever.. cause 11,000 kills? wow..)

I split my sessions up usually. First thing is head to a control system of an opposing power and rack up merits. I limit myself to 1 hour of that so between 400 and 500 merits which of course increases my bounty. LOL I dread to see what would happen if I went into the open servers with a 3.7 million bounty lol

After that I swing by a Haz Rez site for a couple of hours and kill pirates as I am saving up for a Clipper. I have the money right now to buy it but not enough to fit it out properly :(

Last but not least is to take my Asp Explorer out and do just that while running Empire and Federation missions and do allot of trading as well. All those activities rolled neatly into one ship.

I have a Federation Drop ship that is set up to mine and I've used it once. Mining just seems like a waste of time to me as there is no player market and no crafting so, to me, what's the point? The level of income generated vs time expended just does not compute for me. Maybe in a ship with a larger cargo cap it would be worth the effort but right now its something different to do.

Safest solar system in the galaxy.. Impossible for Weeping Angels to enter.

Just had a bunch of fun scanning in my Courier. Now back to my T9 and privateering.

Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battletrader!

Honestly, if the money were great, I probably would mine a lot. I'm already basically farming a surface base for Imperial rank.

I think it's supposed to work well enough if you find sites with pristine reserves.

Anywhere I've ever been, I spent like 4 hours, and failed to get more than 10 tons of mostly worthless rocks. I guess you need to get way outside the bubble for pristine reserves, but that makes for a long trip back, too.

Given the size and amount of resource sites (official or otherwise), I find it utterly absurd that we only get a few bits of gravel worth of metal out of an asteroid the size of Pittsburgh, let alone the fact there are billions more just like it hanging around. I think it must be one of those things where FDev knows they are being completely unscientific about this, because they don't want to allow people to get rich too quickly.

I think I have the settings right, because it seems to scan the comms array SOME of the time, I think it's just very finicky. Part of that may be because my turret is utterly useless for now. I need to figure out some better control scheme than putting it on my POV hat. I really think the whole SRV turret thing works better with a PS4/Xbox controller than with a HOTAS.

That, and even when I do successfully scan it, my missions don't complete. I think it wants me to ALSO scan some data link terminal, but I can't get to both in 40 seconds. Unless there's some other trick I'm missing, I think I'll stick to aerial bombardment for now.

Go for it bud :)

That last few percent is a royal pain, but the relief and the "I can now forget about that and enjoy ... " is brill !

Fly safe

(this might be more general rant than specifically at anyone)
Why?
What is it having elite will let you do that you can't do now ?
Outside of founders access those and few big missions, with larger rewards what is it ?
After almost making elite in trading you should be close to a billion at least in assets, you can afford any ship in game, I'm there myself, I don't need to make money anymore.

shinrarta has few nice things, every ship in game, and 10% bonus.
Well after power play we have a permanent 15% bonus that anyone can use. and with tools like EDDB.IO you will find anything easily.

Meh, I'm probably a bit grouchy since I'm 14k from sag a* and I havent seen anything new since the lagoon, it's just all the same, even the nebula's look like copy pastes at this point.
And yet again going exploring has only really had one major effect.
I stop playing, cause it's not fun.

Contemplating just self destructing to get back already.

To be fair getting Elite is more of a side goal. I am earning enough to fully A spec my Cutter without having to butcher my Anaconda each time.
And yes I am way over a billion in assets already and have never needed to go to Shinrarta for anything. In fact I pride myself on the fact that every ship I own I have always got discounted. My Conda and Python I bought full price then sold and re-bought after one of the Community goals at a 20% discount, everything else I have trekked to Li-Yong space and got the 15% discount.

So no being Elite is not the goal, just a side product of what I happen to be doing at the moment.
I find I like having goals to aim for though otherwise I get bored, but thats just me :)

I scanned an NPC hanging out near the station I was approaching, and found he wasn't what the scanner claimed:
