I decided to try some of planetary assault missions at Cubeo. I used the video in this week's newsletter as a guide, and it was VERY helpful. I didn't want to build a new ship for it, so I retro fitted my
Asp. I failed at my first attempt. Ship destroyed, unclaimed bounties lost, you know the drill.
I didn't have the loadout quite right, and I fully under estimated the attack power of the Goliath. Good God that thing is tough! On my second run, (and having several BB missions still active from the first attempt, and cycling the BB several more times ), I was successful at completing all of my missions.

I had to back away from the defense turrets a few times when my shields got clobbered, but that just added to the fun. I have to say.... attacking a surface station today was the most fun I've had in E-D in quite a while! It's new (to me) and pretty darn exciting without the tension and stress of the shadow delivery interdictions and scans. After the two runs and paying $1.3 for the Asp rebuy, I profited $4.6 m. But honestly.... the fun factor was worth much more.

I'm not doing it for the Empire rank (I wear a crown) so it doesn't feel at all like a grind.

Your scanner may not be active. There is a bug in the game where you have to have 'firing deploys hardpoints' turned on, or the scanner won't work. Also, be sure to have the comms array selected (like selecting a target), go into turret mode, and fire your scanner at it.
