One rule for them... (NPCs)

Postby Gorf » Wed Jan 06, 2016 12:23 am

I don't have a problem with being interdicted by a "clean" NPC. Pirates have to start somewhere when they arrive in a system, so it's not unreasonable that occasionally you get an unexpected (because they're clean) interdiction.

I do object to their status remaining unchanged, though. If I were to interdict a clean target, I'd get a wanted flag and a bounty for that, opening fire on the target and murder if I went the whole hog. However with NPCs, they can interdict and open fire, and if you have the audacity to defend yourself, you are the one that gets the record and the bounty...

How does the rationale work with that one?

Hello,
Have had the same thing happen to me a number of times. Recently an NPC opened fire on me right in front of a station. Did not retaliate as I knew I would get the wanted flag. The station did not even bother to open fire on the NPC even though we were running around right in front of the docking port.

Have fun, fly safe. o7

IDK I have yet to have a non powerplay npc pull me out of SC and open fire. I would say that if it happens often, is not a powerplay faction or security, and bothers you then put in a ticket. You can also search the FD forums to see if there are any others having the same problem as of the last patch. Cheers and good luck!

Sounds like you have the "report crimes" setting set to off.
Setting this to on makes at least power play a little less horrible, granted the NPC does not gain wanted status for interdicting, but opening fire should give him a 400 credit bounty and if you return fire after this, you should be ok.

I just did this a bunch of times since pledging for ALD again yesterday.

Its been a while since i've been Bounty Hunting (been working on my trucking) - but from memory interdicting is just a small infringement fine.
I believe the Wanted status is only gained after opening fire on a friendly/clean ship.

It's still BS when they are PowerPlay attacks. If I can't interdict people in my pledged systems without becoming wanted, they shouldn't be able to either.

In the first betas of Horizons, you didn’t get wanted for shooting at a wanted ship before you were done scanning it, if it was indeed wanted. This was a fix that lots of people (particularly those hunting in wings) had been waiting for during a long time. But of course, FD being FD, that fix was lost in subsequent releases (like several others). So for now, wait for opening fire until you completed a scan of the attacking ship, or until that ship fired at you and hit you.

I have been killing Sirus Transports and Security ships in Mundigal for PP points and every time I fly in the system I see this guy name Christoph something or other in a FDL and he is always clean. Now when I am Tawi doing a res zone this Christoph guy shows up, he is still clean and he opens fire on me with the chatter in local that he is there to end my carnage once and for all. I kill him as he is harmless rated and I have a bounty now. I get attacked by every cop in are and have to run for life, then some where along the trip back to my home station I get interdicted by.....Yeap Christoph and he is in a wing of 3 now and I have to really high tail it out as my ship is usually pretty messed up by then.

Today was the worst day I've had in Elite since I started to play though :(

I took a mission at the De Kamp station in Tawi to find a an NPC what had taken someone hostage that I was to rescue. Ok so I grabbed a cargo scanner, a hatch breaker controller, collector controller ( as I suck at scooping ) and a bunch of limpets. I find the guy, take down his shields and hit him with a hatch breaker. The hostage tumbles out along with tactical reports and some other cargo. So the NPC is just sitting there, so I sent out a collector drone and it brings the hostage back and me, DOH, forgets to open the cargo scoop. The drone slams into my ship and blows up along with the hostage :( Instant mission fail, 390,000 cr reward gone :( Now the NPC that had the hostage opens fire and I kill him....SLAM 5,000 cr bounty for murder in my home system. Now I suck at allot of things in Elite and docking without getting scanned is one of them. But being a real trooper I head to De Kamp. Line up all neat and pretty at about 9.5 km. I slowly go in to 7.5 and get docking clearance. Then I pour on the power drop chaff and head for the door. I hit that web fence, antenna whats its that is around the door and get stuck. I am frantically trying to get free and get attacked for loitering and my docking permission is canceled and I have to fly back out and the minute I get out I get scanned and blown up by the cops.

So I am really not a happy camper with the half baked missions and the idiot rules for the players and not the NPCs.

If that wasn't your worst day, I'd be terrified to hear what was.

I believe someone said in these forums that cops are totally unaffected by chaff. I tend to find that pure speed is the only way to avoid scans... I haven't bothered with silent running in MONTHS. I am able to make it through the mail slot in my python going so fast that I will gently bump the back of a station while on full reverse thrust with my landing gear down (I usually hit the landing gear button the moment I'm in the slot), but that took a lot of practice.

If it makes you feel any better, I did get my anaconda stuck on the cage when I failed to level-out my angle. I wasn't smuggling anything, and my ship didn't get blown up, but my pride did.

Totally bad day, it started off really bad and then it got worse and ended with that fiasco of a mission. I was trying out an Eagle that I fitted with multi cannons instead of lasers....DUMB, then I went to Mundigal to try out my creation and I interdicted an Orca DUMBER and my three small multi cannons were like throwing sand at an out of control bulldozer....take that Phew Phew Phew.....OMG RUN! Well we all know that an Eagle is make out of stale chips and held together with spit. and I was killed.

Ok well no big deal lets do some trading...and get some fortification merits for HIP 16607. Grab my Asp Explorer and load up with 96 tons of Progentitor thingies and head to Kamadhenu. I get there no problem sell my stuff and grab the fortification items and fill our my cargo with good chewin' tabacca and I am at 1.04 Km from docking and I get interdicted. I fight it and lose as usual and I target my assailant and its an anaconda. Oh yay I am in a pig with wings that cant get out of its own way and I die :( And I am back in Kamadhenu :(

When I logged in I was 1.5 million from 30 million is cash and my goal, seemed simple enough was to make 1.5 million. When I logged off on the verge of having an insane psychotic event I had 24 million. :x :o :(

Thank you for the comment lol Its nice to know I am not the only one that messes up :)
