With nothing better to do, I tried a little experiment. I was in the Fine Ring Sector and jumped to the Fine Ring Nebula. I then pointed away from it and maxed the throttle. It took a couple hours to reach 2001C, and then I kept going. I'm not sure the total time, but over 10 hours I think. I used over half a tank on my Asp and went almost 2.5LY away. I was hoping to get a cool shot of my Asp centered in the ring, but the nebula never got any smaller - it should have been filling about 1/4 of the screen by then. A bit disappointing, that. Anyway, I did move away from the local star, and if I was heading toward a close by star, I don't see how I couldn't have reached it.
It's time to give this another go.
