For those without a lot of CZ experience:
-enter the CZ and put the furball behind you. Get far enough away, bring out your weaps, set your pips, then turn back toward the furball and THEN pick your side. Then you can choose your target. This should keep you from getting swamped...for a while.
-As you get kills, the game will decide when you've had enough fun, and send a 3 or 4 NPC death squad at you. You will know when it happens. For me, it's usually when I have earned about 400K in war bonds. BE ready to run if the death squad is too much.
-Bigger targets (Python and above) will usually have friends. If you engage one, expect that one or two others will start shooting at you while the python you are attacking kites you.
-Popping power plants is still a good strategy for larger targets. They become immobile and an easy kill.
-If you are heading towards a target, but have not engaged, and another NPC starts shooting at you...you need to break off and kill the one shooting at you. They will keep shooting at you if you don't, so deal with them right away. Your original target will probably still be there when you're done.
good luck.
-edit: also, if you're going into a CZ, config your ship for war. CZ's are much tougher than haz rez, comp nav, etc as the the ships in cz's have better armor/hull. Don't go into a CZ with a trade ship, or mix ship. It needs to be config for all out battle only.
