Re: 5.1 Sound Solution?

Here's one of the threads I posted:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthrea ... ound+sound
(skip to the last page to get the gist of it)

As you can see, it's very confusing, and no one really knows what is what.

Bottom line is that E: D has uncompressed digital surround. If you want to run this signal to a surround receiver, you have to use hdmi, and you need an amp that can handle an uncompressed digital surround signal.

Yeah Globus, you're right.

After googling about and doing a 'power surf' which I've just made up, I'm starting to see the obstacles. It seems the only real solution is to get a surround amp with HDMI in. I see some of these have optical too for blu ray players and such.

Well this discussion, long winded on my part, has probably saved me some money so Onwards and Upwards eh?

Absolutely my friend. I'm just looking at my options on my local second hand website, and it's by no means impossible. :)

Incidentally, the link you put on this thread to the Elite Forum was the one I was talking about in one of the many paragraphs my OP. Interesting it was a thread started by you. At least I guess you knew what I was trying to get at.

Absolutely. I was grinding my head at the time, and no one, not even FD were quite sure how to answer me. But FD wont be paying the compression licensing fees (understandable I guess), so you and I have to buy "newer" surround amps with hdmi capabilities. :)

I'm quite keen on a second hand Denon avr 1911. Seller wants 110 bob, I offered 60. Let's see where it goes. :)

Just looked at the Denon avr 1911. Nice bit of kit by the looks of it. Just the thing it seems

Good luck with that.

The equivalent of 600 danish kroner. He's asking 1100. But the market is flooded with this kind of product, so I'm keeping my cool. :)

That is very ok. I think it's a 2012 model right?

If you've got the means, I can only recommend Denon. I've had my current one for 10 years now, no problems. Only considering replacement because of the damn hdmi.

Hang on... You're looking at mint new products... :)

The retail price is 150 pounds. Ok. Yes. Buy new. No worries at all. :)

Google reviews to make sure (denon avr 1513 review):
