I agree with most of what's said in the article, except I DO have a problem with Ford Prefect being portrayed by an African-American actor. It's just WRONG, a pandering to political correctness & ameriKKKan mass appeal that betrays the spirit of Ford so totally it makes me sick.
I'll leave the final words with the author...But what Disney and Garth Jennings did with the finished product is far worse that what you see here. They’ve stripped bare the soul of Hitchhiker’s Guide, leaving behind a shell of a movie that strives for greatness but can barely muster up mediocrity. Now I know how Marvin feels.
I read the article and the summary reduces it to: It's not like I imagined it when I read the book, so it's a bad film.
Chris Cummins (the author) curiously leaves out an important quote from Robbie Stamp, an executive producer of the movie, possibly because it doesn't fit his viewpoint:
"The script we shot was very much based on the last draft that Douglas wrote.... All the substantive new ideas in the movie ... are brand new Douglas ideas written especially for the movie by him.... Douglas was always up for reinventing HHGG in each of its different incarnations and he knew that working harder on some character development and some of the key relationships was an integral part of turning HHGG into a movie."
And perhaps you were unaware that Adams was far less precious about how his work was presented than the H2G2 purity police would like:
"Douglas himself is on record as saying that as far as he was concerned the only character who had to be British, indeed English, was Arthur Dent."

You have evidence for a "pandering to political correctness & ameriKKKan mass appeal", or is that just a personal rant?
Having been a Guide enthusiast since the first episode of the radio series went out in 1978 (yes, it's older than Elite), owning copies of the broadcasts, the books and the film, I'm more than a little disappointed to be dismissed as not a "true fan" simply because I enjoyed the film.
